Am not at all surprised!,we borrow piles of money then travel around the world desperatly trying to give it all away while we ignore our homeless, poor, and the starving!,then next year we have to borrow even more in order to pay it back plus the interest!,you could not even run a corner shop like that could you?. |

If there are 60m folk in the UK... That's £27,022. No wonder my two girls keep asking me for a few £'s
Or about the same number as the value of shoes the average lady has in her wardrobe.. |

"Who is it owed to???
People
Bloody people! "
A large chunk to the Bank of England - who may decide at some point in the future once the markets are calm to write it off (as they just printed it in the first place)
And it could be worse this isn't even half of what we were in debt at the start of the 1950s (relative to GDP ) |

That's a drop in the ocean compared to the houses of parliament...and we aren't forking out really...she is just keeping back 10% more from what she pays in to the treasury.. |

"Who is it owed to???"
The British Government's debt is owned by a wide variety of investors, most notably pension funds. These funds are on deposit, mainly in the form of Treasury bonds at the Bank of England.
The pension funds, therefore, have an asset which has to be offset by a liability, or a debt, of the government.
As of 2011 around 35% of the national debt was owed to overseas governments and investors.
