Should I get a Ps4 or an Xbox?

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else |
After a couple of pleasant hours playing Mario Kart Wii with my nephew, I'm wondering if it's time to upgrade to something newer.
I don't have a 4k TV, I wouldn't expect to be playing online with either friends or randoms, I don't watch films on BluRay very often, so it seems like for me it would be all about the games - and I don't think there's much in it there either. I'd play a couple of driving games, probably try a golf one, GTA (which I haven't played since it was a top down driving game!), and some sort of FPS - all of which are available for both.
So my question for the good people of fab on a Sunday night is - are there any other criteria I should take into account? |

"A console would be perfect for your needs, but I'm going to be a knobhead and still suggest making a little ITX PC to sit next to your TV. "
PC gaming is much more expensive though |

He didn't mention cost being an issue (and he is sharply dressed afterall). PC's just have so much more use and depth for gaming. |

From what you describe I would say you don't need to look into it too seriously. Just look at the games available for each and decide which you like better. If the games are equally as enticing, go with the cheaper option |

Personally I'd say PS4 as there's probably a few more exclusives on there than XB. But as Lib says, there's not much in it. Technically almost identical inside. Any friends online with a particular one maybe? |

Who knew that a single electronic purchase could be papering over the many deficiencies?
I'll make it my business to get a life, wife, girlfriend, and job at the earliest opportunity, acquiring as many of those as possible in a pub.
Some of them sound less fun than a console though... |

I have a Ps4 and an Xbox1s and for me the 1s wins hands down for it's 4k and the Forza gaming series. I'm seriously addicted to Horizon 3 at the moment hence not being on here much |

I could rip both consoles apart for their downfalls. And big them both up for their merits.
There very much alike. 4K gaming is kike 3D films. Do we 'need' them? No. it doesn't help with story telling. The game is still shit in 4K.
PS4 or Xbox 1?
For the type of games you want to play, flip a coin. You can get them all on both consoles.
My advice is try the controllers and see which you'd be confortable holding for hours on end. |

"I have a Xbox one and have done for last 3 years
And prior to that an Xbox360 since 09
I have never had a PlayStation - I enjoy my Xbox and the games are pretty good
"
My history from old school next gen.
Ps2. Xbox, PS3, 360 and now a PS4.
I'm not loyal at all.
Nintys along side them for the mario stuff.
I've never had a console and wanted for the other alternative. |

"Kids love the Xbox! Gentlemen prefer PlayStation....."
It's clearly the other way around. Ps is for kids who aren't educated. Just take Sheldon Cooper from the bug bang theory. Even he chose the xbox platform over the play station. Intellect wins on this one. |

I've never had a PlayStation so I can't comment about them, however I've got an Xbox and it's great apart from the fact it does a big update every few days...
It's a real ballache when you just fancy a quick 20 minute go and the fucking thing updates for 10.. Really pulls on my sack..

Back for a update - Xbox is on order. Deciding factor was the reviews of the racing games.
So, I'll be up all weekend playing Forza Horizon, it appears.
I haven't tried combining a gaming habit with employment before - what could possibly go wrong? |

I'm getting the new Xbox one S.
I'm not much of a gamer to be honest, but there are a few games I fancy playing.
As I have a 4k TV the xbox makes the most sense. There are some versions of ps4 that have 4k capability but I've found that the position is less clear.
Plus I won't touch Sony.
Almost all the games that are releaded these days are released on multiple platforms anyway |

It will upscale existing games, but is ready for when 4k games come along.
Got Forza Horizon for my son, so will probably get to play it |

At the expense of frame rate though. Full 4k at 60fps or more would take a lot more cpu than the PS4 or Xbox has |
