ionly have traits of it because I was never formally assessed, though the training we were given to spot it ...spotted me lol. I find body language tricky and knowing when to go in for the kill...ermmm to make the first move, without scaring men x easier when I'm seeing a sub, I know where I stand then. It definitely sounds interesting

I might consider going, but it's got to be in exactly the right place.

Are you seriously taking the piss out of a disability?

It's both a totally accurate statement and a cheeky poke at the same time

I'm calling the way my brain functions a disability. And I'm saying you're not Aspie - I'm saying the comment you made was a piss take. And I'm saying an Aspie wouldn't say what you said. (I have a lot of Aspie friends and family.)

If you truely have aspergers then I apologise, but I've seen you in the forums a lot and you do an amazingly incredible impression of the total opposite of someone with aspergers.

To be honest I'm furious. I work my arse off day in and day for autism to be accepted and understood. And people turn it into a joke with a slick little comment on the forum.

I'm really upset. I've had enough tbh.

Don't be upset, PT.

There are many people who use humour as a defence mechanism, it's a lot less stressful than anger. It is also a good way to learn to accept your differences, and a better way to educate others, imho.

OP: I don't think you need a special social, many people aren't aware of their place on the spectrum, so would feel they couldn't come. Just try to act a part and be brave enough to attend a normal one.

Good luck

Mr ddc

I feel no need to provide fab with a complete medical history, or psychoanalysis. I'll deal with my conditions, both mental and physical as I wish. And I choose not to hide behind them or allow them to define me.

Everybody is on the spectrum, some people are just at the extremes.

That's all fine and personal to you. The point where it involves me and other people is when you take the piss out of it.

And when I'm having a shit time, yes I'm going to react to it.

It's great you're at a point where you neither have to hide behind them or let them define you.

You are obviously far superior to me.

I guess it's just a question of perspective: To have managed to do what she has achieved is absolutely remarkable. I couldn't even do Karaoke without someone to hide behind.

There is something incredibly British about concentrating on someone's moments of weakness

Possibly. I like to think some of it's empathy. But there's a lot of morbid fascination in a "thank fuck that's not happening to me" kinda Daily Mail sort of way.

Our 8year old is a aspie. Very very clever but not very social round people. And I agree lots of people have some kind of it without realising

"Hoped it'd be a fun thread "

It still can be, we can tell each other Aspie jokes. How about:

A guy is flying in a hot air balloon, and he's lost.

He lowers himself over a field and calls to a guy "Can you tell me where I am and where I'm headed?"

"Sure. You're at 41 degrees 2 minutes and 14 seconds North, 144 degrees 4 minutes and 19 seconds East; you're at an altitude of 762 meters above sea level, and right now you're hovering, but you were on a vector of 234 degrees at 12 meters per second."

"Amazing! Thanks! By the way, do you have Asperger's Syndrome?"

"I do! How did you know that?"

"Because everything you said is true, it's much more detail than I need, and you told me in a way that's no use to me at all."

"Huh. Are you a clinical psychologist?"

"I am, but how the heck did you know that???!!??"

"You don't know where you are. You don't know where you're going. You got where you are by blowing hot air. You put labels on people after asking a few questions, and you're in exactly the same spot you were 5 minutes ago, but now, somehow, it's my fault!"

Brighton - even Hove!

My son is an Aspie. The joke above was very funny and actually, I hate to say it, so was Clems. I've seen my son at a 'social' event for other teenagers with ASC and they all sat playing with their phones ignoring each other. That was amusing too.

OP, I think a better idea is just to go to a social and see how you like it.
