I have a habit of biting inside my mouth when bored/thinking/anxious. It annoys the hell out of me but its been a habit for many years and I find myself chewing away at the inside of my mouth sometimes until it bleeds. Not everyday, somedays.

Anyone know of anything I can do to stop doing it? Ive tried chewing gum but after I have run out of gum I still do it. I have tried to keep busy but its when im bored at home that I find myself doing it.

Wish I could have hypotherapy.

Would getting a mouth guard or something help to prevent you from doing it

I would have thought it might impair my speech .. but not sure where I would get one.. and would it hurt, wearing it for several hours a day?

Check out a sports shop for them. You can get ones that mould to your jawline.

What about a chew toy like a dog has so you chew that not your mouth?

Think about your trigger points too - what about a wodge of chewing gum?

I'd say my cock but I'm not having anyone nervous put that in their mouth - it's for relaxed people only

Its anytime really. At work, with friends, not so much if i am out or on holiday. If i am busy busy i dont do it .. i guess its boredom. I tried a few months back to stop and stopped for a week but it was hard but once i got past the first 2 days it was easier but then something triggered it off. I sometimes avoid kissing because of it.

Looked at mouthguards but they protect the teeth which means i can still bite.

It is possibly a stress triggered unconcious reaction like Bruxism (unconcious teeth grinding). Hypnotherapy might be worth investigating as it is an effective therapy in such situations.

Off the grid

Google chewy tube. They are for humans to chew. There are different sizes, textures and levels of chewiness/toughness.

East Yorkshire

Wear an elastic band or bobble round your wrist and when you go to chew snap that against your wrist instead. It's a very basic form of cbt but it works!

Get a boxing mouth guard. Sit it on boiling water then put in mouth and bite down on it and keep it there until it moulds. You can get the clear ones but yes they make it hard to speak.

I've had similar problems in the past and the only thing I can really suggest is to attempt to neutralise the cause of the problem, or at least put it out of your mind.

Easier said than done, but I've pretty much managed to cure mine.
