Yes, I write a weekly letter to my cousin in wales, we had this discussion about how email is killing the art of letter writing.
I use good paper, and a fountain pen, it has a feeling of great occasion, but we have gone a bit over the top, its become a bit competitive, who has the best paper, who has the best envelopes, I blew his mind a few months ago when I included a picture of my writing desk, the old ones with the pull down leather inlaid desk top, he is looking for one now but hasn't been able to find one in his neck of the woods for under £300, so I've got him one for Christmas, a snip at £25 from the charity shop |

My handwriting is a total scrawl unless I concentrate and have a comfy pen, in which case it's quite nice. I still scrawl away. My music manuscript writing is pretty though.
"Though this won't be a love-letter. I have a scratchy pen and I can't write love-letters with a scratchy pen . . . or a sharp pen . . . or a stub pen. So you'll only get that kind of letter from me when I have exactly the right kind of pen."

I write to my daughter once a fortnight (she's at uni and is the only student in her block who regularly gets "proper post") and still write to my oldest friend. A proper fountain pen, blue ink, blotted.
I have letters from my uni days, wrapped in ribbon. Who keeps emails for 25 years?? |

Yes I do, I write to my aunty once a month or so. I got a shock when she emailed me a few months ago (she's in her 80's) I asked her to stick to letters and just use emails for sending photos |

"Yup and I've just learnt to write in Wiccan too
Theban Script?"
Yup, I wanted to learn it for a while and recently it was recommended that I start a diary so two birds, one stone, no one in the house can read it this way, it took about two days to learn |

I adore writing. I write letters to people close to me or postcards/cards constantly. I have a bowl of cards to choose from, picked up in gift shops of museums or art galleries, or wonderful independent card shops so I've always got one to hand (blank messaged ones rather than 'occasion' ones). I have ranges of beautiful letter writing pads for long handwritten missives. I have pens galore. I'm also partial to a Sharpie marker in every colour for handwriting notes on wall mind map planners and collage brainstorming boards. I find these super for writing on flesh too, as need arises. I have A3 pads to map ideas onto, all handwritten. Notebooks galore for jotting ideas, or lists into or for more creative notation. I wouldn't cope without the option of transferring brain rumination into written word, doodle or scrawl. |

"I have the worst writing in the world
It's lots of scribbles with circles and arrows and houses and tridangles linking it but that's how my mind works "
Like an inebriated spider that's stumbled through an ink well you mean |

This thread reminds me of "Love letters" we used to pass around during school.
The art of writing a paragraph and adding little doodles as a expression of how we felt then signing off with "SWALK" or "HOLLAND" before slipping into the recipients bag or pocket.
Now it is has been lost due to the rise of electronic devices and so forth. |
