Baps have different texture, more doughy than rolls. Cobs are hard and crusty.

If I'm being magnanimous (which I rarely am), if it's soft, it could (possibly) be a roll but if it's crusty it's definitely a cob.

Barm or bap. Where I come from a 'barm' is also a term for someone who does daft things e.g. 'Why did you do that ya barm'.
