I'm going grey! (can't remember the crying emoji otherwise I'd use that).
I've clearly had a really hard life!
Anyway, I refuse to be naturally grey at my age, another 10 years at least.
So what hair dye tdo people recommend? I've never dyed my hair and not keen on paying hair dresser prices I am already imagining the disaster this will be, when I do it myself, but it needs to be done
Help? Advice? Pisstakers? Anything? |

Think if I didn't dye it I would be than 50% grey
I dye mine my natural colour so do it myself with non amonina based product. |

"I use 'Nice and easy' always comes out natural looking, and I am constantly being told how shiny and heathy my hair is "
I'll second that.
I'd stick with semi-permanent to begin with, it's so much kinder on your hair and is all you'll need if it's just to cover a small amount of grey. Also if you're brunette, box dyes always tend to come out darker than you think. I use medium ash brown because it comes out the best colour match, even though my hair is very dark. Dark brown would make it practically black. |

Hello fellow 28 year old. I'm going grey too. I've bought hair dye and I'm too much of a pussy to actually use it.
It's a shade darker than my current hair color. I'm scared of fucking it up. I think I need a support group of some kind. |

One thing I'm worried about is my hair going dry, many of my friends have dyed their hair numerous colours and been doing so for years, so now it's like straw. I don't want that happening, so will look at this one |

I want to stick with my natural colour, even if people have suggested electric blue or red. I like my natural colour. |

That's my worry, I'll probably end up with an outline around my face, or it turning the wrong colour |

I started going grey at secondary school. My natural colour is tricky to recreate with a box dye at home since it's very, very dark brown (almost black) but with a slightly red sheen in bright sunlight. I started getting mine done at the hairdressers but it is pricey, especially since my hair grows so fast, so every now and then I use a semi-permanent dark chocolate or espresso colour in between visits (Casting or Olia, whatever's on offer). It's slightly too light but it covers up the worst of the silver roots. Also, a blend of black and dark brown eyeshadow brushed along my parting then fixed with hairspray works as a quick fix. |

You need permanent or semi permanent depending on the coverage required for the level of grey. I went slightly grey young but fully after an operation in my early thirties. I use garnier as it's selection of reds are really good. Use a colour retaining shampoo and conditioner. Best of luck with it op |

Semi-permanent seems a good idea to start with, will help with shading choices |

"Shop bought hair dye ruins your hair. "
It's the ammonia that damages your hair. I've noticed no more damage to mine since I started dyeing it regularly 8 years ago, and I'm quite hard on mine with heat styling etc. |

Always go a shade lighter than you think is good advice above. |

My hair only dried out when i started bleaching it. I've been dying my hair since i started going grey at 18. You'll be fine whatever make you use. Semi permanent might not work depending on how grey you are. |

I'm not really sure how grey I am, I haven't had anyone check around the back for me. But I'm sure every time I look in the mirror there's more and more, I probably think there's more than there is, but it's enough for me to notice. |

Agree, always go at least a shade lighter than you want! Because it is always goes darker than you expect, I use a medium brown one as well, as been advised by my hairdresser to avoid those x |

It's not as scary as you think and you can't really go very wrong if your hair is brown and you dye it brown. It won't turn out blue! Just go as close to your hair as possible and it'll be fine. Also put vaseline along your hair line and on your ears to stop the dye staining your skin. It really isn't as scary as you think it'll be. |

I had grey hairs at 15 and lots of them! My gran was totally grey at 20.
I have no idea how much grey I have because I dye it as soon as my roots are noticeable.. About 4 weeks.
I can't say my colour fades because it doesn't.
I had very dark think curly hair when younger.. The only difference in my hair is the colour now.

A paste of ash and shampoo removes dye stains afterwards as well. Oh. And I tried the nice n easy 8 wash temporary one once in dark brown. As it washed out gradually it left my silver roots slightly purple. Which was weird. So I wouldn't use that one if I were you; I'd go for a semi-permanent rather than a temporary. |

I use Nice & Easy too.
Where most of my friends have gone grey only at the roots and round the edges. I've not got that, I have whole strands and streaks/patches. It's a buggar to cover them properly.
I use a medium cool brown.

I'd always recommend non ammonia hair dyes.
It's always advisable to follow their instructions, as keeping it on for too long WILL result in damaging the hair.
Good luck x |

I was in a restaurant with my sisters and sister in law and said I was going to stop dying my hair and embrace the grey. All 3 of them said simultaneously, rather loudly, oh no you're not!
So I didn't.
