"Wait for France, Austria and others in 2017.....they now have powerful precedents to go down the path of full-blown fascism.
Dark days."
Yeah, some kind of bizarre zeitgeist going on, I am actually a fascinated observer as well as a concerned individual. |

"I'm waiting for the new golf course he is going to build.
I imagine it is going to be members only! "
I have a feeling a lot of what he wants to do will just be blocked though - if they can bog down someone as brilliant as Obama I'm sure they can curtail an idiot like Trump, surely? |

Yes I do believe the American system has all sorts of checks and balances to prevent the abuse of presidential power. It's a double edged sword but let's hope it cuts the right way. |

They have control of all 3 arms of parliament.
Remember everyone in the party went against him...and he still won.
This is now going to turn into gift politics. The senior party members will want it and if so...they will have to dance to his tune |

That could be the case except his party also has control of congress, making things a little easier for him with regards to some of his crazy plans |

I was thinking watching the news - I wonder what the underlying zeitgeist is?? I do not believe the rank and file are fascists - but they ARE expressing something which people like Trump and Farage can take advantage of.
I reckon it is something like:
1 I do not feel secure or confident about my future
2 The powers that be are getting on with their own agenda and not listening to me or doing my will.
I reckon a large proportion of the western world feels the same - maybe the cognoscenti underestimated the masses. |

"People are finally giving up on PC BS and the hand-wringing brigade" That is right and that is the only way a country can prosper as it is ok to say whats wrong without being labelled.

They are idiots too though so will let Trump do as he pleases. He will undo everything Obama did. Obama's legacy, for the little there is of it, will be wiped out! |

It was always a large VAT and put it on the slate Dave, at The Winchester.
And anyway, wassisname in America is a businessman.Land of the free. Free enterprise. Could be a nice little earner, Terry!

I think Barclays wrote a little paper awhile back showing investors where they expect politics to be going in the coming future..... Roughly speaking They expect long term instability and globalisation to stop, they say this has been coming for decades but was inevitably speeded up by the banking crises!!. |

Yes, I have long felt that the zeitgeist was about people wanting to be indentified with their own tribe or nation - the break up of the Baltic states and USSR, the reunification of Germany etc are a demonstration of this 'tide' to my mind.
If that is the spirit of the age then integration, federalisation and globalisation will inevitably fail.
I speak as an impartial observer.... |

Let us leave it up to the majority who voted him in. Just as it was left up to the majority who voted Obama in. It is called democracy. It works when your man wins. It also works when your man looses |

I speak as an impartial observer...." . It's about global capitalism not globalism, we live by a system that not just relies on but positively feeds on greed, gluttony, wrath, sloth, envy, lust and pride.... Bearing that in mind I don't find it at all surprising that the system turns out those emotions wholesale ... We're beyond a system update, tweaking a bit here or there won't fix the problem.... we need an entirely new system!.... The question is what do you want this new system to produce, once you know that you can design a system that churns out that. |

Yes, I guess that is part of it...I am not convinced one can 'produce a new system' that goes against the zeitgeist tide though - they key, I reckon, is swimming with it. |
