You can't beat a fish supper. Freshly fried with no salt or vinegar added (do it yourself when you get home or when the delivery arrives) and with a proper gobstopper of a chipshop onion.
Washed down with Irn Bru it's quite simply the food of the gods. |

Or what about a Pie Supper?
The Sassenachs on here won't know what the hell we're talking about!
And Yes, washed down with Irn Bru!
Braw! |

That's where confusion could arise.
D'ye mean a round pie supper (very popular in certain neighbourhoods) or an ashet pie supper (perhaps thought of as being a wee bit upmarket)?
I think we should be told |

Well, if you visit the chippy just off the Milngavie town square en route to one of the better G postcode dogging sites, the chances are the default setting for a pie (or peh, for our Dundonian colleagues) will be round.
Deep frying a round pie takes skill. It's a fine line between cooking the mutton centre whilst not burning the pasrty case. Years of deep frying pizza might assist in this task. |

Plaice in breadcrumbs with chips (but not those horrid chunky cut things).
Gravy on chips is just plain wrong!!
So is mayo on chips. Wrong! Wrong! Wrong!
The only thing chips should be wearing is salt & vinegar. |

Proper fish 'n' chips we had by the sea in Porthleven, Cornwall a few years ago. No chippy meal has ever lived up to it since. |

i can sense all the chefs out their fainting at the mere thought of deep frying a scallop
and since reading Pease pudding in here i really really really want boiled bacon, boiled potatoes, savoy cabbage and tinned carrots with pease pudding and some of the boiling liquer over the top mmmmmmmmmmmmm |

I'm not so sure that's a problem. Scallops deep fried in tempura batter with a dipping sauce of your choice would be an excellent starter. |

I can assure you the chippie opposite the car park in Milngavie sells deep fried round (Scotch) pies as does the 'Chinese' chippie in Baljaffray. They're the only two chippies worth visiting for miles around. |

"Err... A scOllope is a medium thick slice of potato, fried in batter...

You may very well be right but I don't see any sign of anyone having contradicted you or suggesting otherwise.
I've always called a "medium thick slice of potato, fried in batter" a fritter but then we are, in many ways, two countries separated by a common language |

Yup... Got that bit...
But en passant and as an addendum to a post by another... I thought to clarify the subtle difference between the two words and the diverse cullinary offering to which each pertained...
To those of us who consider mate as being a sandwich filler... A fritter would probably signify battered spam... |
