Not normally a red wine drinker, but drinking a lovely Malbec from Argentina with Sunday times wine club. Never read the paper but the wines are excellent. Anybody recommend a good wine, prefer white usually but the red is good today |

I'm not a big fan of new world wine, simply because it is always matured in new oak barrels, as opposed to European wines where old wood is used. The difference being the taste, (obviously), you can taste the wood in new world wine.
It is of course a matter of taste, and I would never say that there is a difference in quality.
But European wine is smoother |

"I'm on El Bombero tonight, but we've never had a bad bottle of red or white from where we buy it.
Not allowed to post weblinks, but I'm sure if you Google "Laithwaites" you'll find it.
Mr ddc " yes I,ve some nice wine from laithwaites the only trouble is they are continually sending out more Info to buy more wine I,d end up a alcoholic if they had their way... |

Since I only order it when they have free delivery, it limits how often I buy it.

Can't go wrong with any of the Médoc Premier cru, or St Emilion grand cru classé .
It's a steal if you buy it in the year it's pressed, and let the vineyard look after it for you for a few years until it's bottled and ready to drink. |

If you like Argentinian Malbec, you should go for an Old World Malbec (Bordeaux) as the Argentinian is an imitation of it as the climate is similar in Mendoza. Generally, a French Malbec is just as full bodied but slightly fruitier. |

I find that South American wines are smoother than European though a Maltese one i had on holiday a few years back was very palatable, went well with the rabbit. Currently on a very smooth Antares Chilean merlot |

I love a Malbec - had some excellent Malbec-Merlot from Argentina too. Everything I've had from the Santa Carolina vinyard in Chile has been excellent as well.
