Does a cold sore mean you are going to have Alzheimer's in future!!!!!!!!!
Evidence is building that the cold sore virus may be linked to Alzheimer's disease, an expert says.
In lab tests, Manchester University found brains infected with the herpes simplex virus, HSV-1, saw a rise in a protein linked to Alzheimer's.
The researchers infected cultures of human brain cells with the virus and found a "dramatic" increase in levels of the beta amyloid protein - the building blocks of deposits, or plaques, which form in the brains of people with Alzheimer's

"Isn't Aloe Vera supposed to help? Im sure that's what one of my friends uses."
The thing is you should keep it dry so use alcohol on it and even though it will sting don't touch it.
Alternatively go swimming I don't know why, maybe it's the antibacterial stuff in the water but it helps to get rid of it quickly too. |

Not necessarily but that's a whole different topic. I don't get them myself but the OP just wants to feel better. Each to their own. |

"Any recommendations for treating them "
Once you've got a full-blown cold sore there's not a lot you can do apart from keep it clean and try not to pick the scab. The virus will run it's course and clear up in its own time.
For future reference - Zovirax, as a previous poster mentioned, is great to stop the cold sore from forming if you start to use it as soon as you feel the initial 'tingle'. |

As soon as I feel a 'tingle' I dab with perfume or alcohol. I've tried all the over the counter remedies, but found perfume or alcohol works the best.
As for the link with Alzheimers - that explains a lot lol
Anyone fancy me - I'm doomed lol xx |

The thing to remember OP is that if the sore has already formed, treatment creams don't work. When I suffered with them severely as a youngster, I just used lip balm to ease the dryness and cracking of my lips.
Medicated creams only work at the first signs of an outbreak. |

Last time I felt one coming I dabbed some apple cyder vinegar on it and it dried up within a couple of days. I don't know if it was the vinegar helping, but they usually last a couple of weeks. I usually use Zovirax or a generic aciclovir cream. I've been eating a lot healthier and haven't had one for a while. I'm hoping I get through this winter without any. |

I've suffered with them for years, I find if I use zovirax in time it will disappear before it develops further but within a week or two I'll get another come and nothing works to get rid of that one.
What I do find odd is that when I do get one then my whole face gets very dry and the pain/discomfort seems to get worse as I get older but I get them less now. |

As others have said, zovriax is great if you use it at first sign
Once it's out, the cold sore patches are great. Keep it contained and draws the crap out so shortens the life
Also makes them not so visible so you don't feel like a leper |

Mine get really painful if I let them dry and crack (especially if it's in the corner of my mouth), so I pop them with a sterile pin and them keep smothering in vaseline. Works a treat and it doesn't leave a red scar like other things I've tried.
