Just wondering does depression ever go away I've had mine for about 6/7 years now and sometimes it's just too much anyone who has suffered with depression has it ever gone away other time? |

Have you sought medical advice? Sorry to hear of your depression, I can imagine it's a horrible thing. But help is out there and I hope you are able to access specialist support.

My depression had a cause. I got rid of the cause and eventually the depression lifted. I weaned myself off the medication myself as my GP was showing no sign of doing it. Sometimes I get close again so try and focus on something else. |

Generally though? I think people just get better at living with the thoughts and seeing the light in situations, that yeah you still have a few characteristics but not enough to let it get to you. |

Well yes however through a series of councilling it helped me (Mrs) look into ways causing my depression and y I feel tat way and then ways on how to deal with my problems. Luckily tat helped as I sought help at the beginning of the downer feeling.
It does rear its ugly head every now and then but thanks to the tools I have and support from my family.
Try to seek either medical or councilling help and good luck op x |

OP, sorry to read that you are feeling unwell. Have you had any treatment?
There are times when mental health is good and times when it's bad. Enjoy the times when you are well and try and find the things that make you better when you are unwell.
I have had depression since I was a child but it took me until my 20s to acknowledge that, have a proper diagnosis and deal with it. Sometimes it's good and sometimes it bad.

From personal experience I'd say no once youve got past the stage of it being more than a year, the cause is still there even once you discover what it is its about learning to live your life despite it. I do a bit of voluntary work with adult males who suffer with depression/anxiety and I find it similar to alcoholism that they are just one trigger away from a relapse. |

I promise you it does mate I also suffered up until the point where I tried to do myself in. I'm now in a good place and you will be to mate. I found that being honest with my friends and family about my state of mind really helped. In the end it's your brain and at the moment you are basically having an argument with it. You and you alone is the only one that can sort it, just really try and keep positive ignore it when its telling you you are down and just start smiling to yourself, put some comedy on and try and laugh. I suffered terribly with it until a professional explained it to me in terms I could deal with.. Suddenly I understood the mechanism of depression and it subsided..
I don't think it ever goes completely, we are all predisposed to suffer, it's a natural effect..it's how we cope that makes the difference..
By the way, crying does help..
I didn't read all the posts, so sorry if I'm repeating, watch the black dog video..just do a Google search for it.
I hope you find your own coping mechanism soon.

I'm sorry op, it is a tough thing to deal with.
But yes, depression can go away. You can't make yourself happy all of a sudden by thinking yourself happy. You need to work out what is getting you depressed and if you can't change you need to learn to cope with it. If it is your job that is shit try to find another but it is usually not that obvious. CBT is as effective as anti depressants but GPs generally will go for the pill route as it works much quicker (particularly when you take the waiting time in to consideration) and it is generally cheaper. If you haven't already speak to your GP. Given how long it had been going on you might need to ask him for a change or addition of treatment.
If you now are on tablets for it maybe some psychological support is what you need to start feeling better. Getting you to a better place with the tools needed to tackle the situations causing depression may be all that is needed to get you off the tablets one day
Good luck and hope you feel better. Maybe not tomorrow but down the line. Such a long period won't be reversed quickly |

I also believe food can make a difference, the chemicals in it I mean.
I can't eat chocolate because I am lactose intolerant but before I was diagnosed if I ate some the next day I would feel suicidal. And nothing to do with calories or guilt.
Once I spotted this trend I didn't touch the stuff so didn't suffer.
I think thsi is why advice for depression includes eating well? |

I was once severely depressed, at least that's what I would call it, as I begin to question why I'm living.
In my case it was music and 30mins-1hour of alone time that I used for thinking that got me out of it. |

It's peaks and troughs mate, I've struggled for years with it. The hardest thing is to find a way to climb out of the troughs. I tried booze, drugs, aggression(street fighting) and just about every dumb way to climb out of them. The doc gave me pills which made me feel neither happy or sad and that was the worst, the turning point was the numbness. I isolated myself from everyone, binned the wife and house and moved to a different city. I binned the pills and walked into a boxing gym, got my arse handed to me 3 times a week but I looked forward to it, not so I could fight but so I could see how much I could take. I class myself as "balanced" now rather than cured, still have off days but I force myself out of them. I did however keep my job through all this, still gotta pay the bill lol |

I am on a very hefty dose of venlafaxine combined with mirtazapine. However I tried many before i found ones that worked for me. Its sadly not a science. Trial and error is the way forward for meds |

You need to give them a couple of months. If the ones you have aren't working after that then go and change to another one. We're all different and they react differently to each individual. What works for me might not work for you.
If the side effects are severe then go back and tell your GP immediately.

I've suffered for 16 years and in that time I've been to groups, had a cpn come to my home and had my medication changed four times. I have my good days and bad days, but when I have a full blown panic attack it still scares the shit out of me just like my first one did. As for the minor attacks I've learned to cope with them by doing something to take my mind of it. But you'll know what works best for you op as we all deal with thing differently, but I would say don't lock yourself away from the outside world so to speak as there is people who care for you x |

Different drugs work for different people. I personally moved away from anti D's after quite a few years on them. Diet change, lowering my alcohol intake, daily yoga and meditation became my coping mechanism along with CBT. Find what works for you and stick to it. |

I do believe that this is something that sufferers learn to deal with, some are worse off than others, some learn coping mechanisms and some use prescribed medication. The treatments are wideranging and varied. However I would never, ever use the phrase 'truly depressed' or 'seriously depressed' around a sufferer, as to them this is the worst they've ever felt.
I recognise in myself certain traits and symptoms and treat them with what I know and generally it keeps me on the equilibrium. But I know I'm only on the border, half of the battle is admitting and 'treating' |

Yep it does. However you first need to find a good doctor with an interest in mental health who will refer you to a specialist for a proper diagnosis. Reason being that many being treated for depression are suffering from other illnesses that bouts of depression are just one symptom of but because it is obvious and the doctor is overworked other symptoms are missed. |

There's a tendency for people to diagnose themselves with depression when actually they're sad or feeling low. Which is a shame as it can be self fulfilling.

From a personal point of view, I was prescribed anti depressants but the thought of being reliant on a drug to keep me on even keel made me seek alternative ways like the counselling, now not saying it completely worked as 12yrs on still suffer but I control it and only go dark in my own company but I find physical exercise and stimulation keeps it mostly at bay, guess mine I have learnt to live with it, but then I know the root of it but talking to someone impartial may help and certainly wouldn't make it any worse. Hope you find a way to cope with it so it doesn't effect your life too much |

Several years ago I suffered depression and had some sort of an anxiety disorder. My gp put me on a drug called sertraline and I had therapy. It worked a treat. I learned to rewire mt thoughts. I concentrated on work and few a few years never gave myself time to dwell on things. I can out the other side. You can too. |

My mental health issues (I'm loathe to call it depression, it's both more and less than that) all stems from the relationship with my family and my fucked up childhood.
I cut my parents out years ago and as they are the biggest trigger but it doesn't go away, it's just different and easier to control now.
I doubt it will ever go away, but I don't let it define me anymore. And I spot the warning signs when I'm about to hit self destruct much earlier these days |

My most recent experience of depression was over a guy, I loathe the fact that a guy could make me hit rock bottom but slowly I'm picking myself up.
It's a horrible feeling of self worthlessness and all my insercurties that have been tucked away in a box for years have resurfaced...I will get there I know what makes me depressed and I'm working to resolve my way of thinking. |

In short no it will never fully go.. The trigger mechanism has been activated and you can't turn that off... What you can do is manage your day to day situation.. If your on medication DO NOT SKIP it...seek councelling too it helped me. You will recognise the signs that are familiar to when you had your melt down.. I do... And i know i have to rectify and take control. It really is self management once you have that worked out it becomes less of a problem to cope with... You would be surprised how many fabbers suffer with it.. Its a mental illness and employers don't know how to deal with it... I am going through a tribunal atm with my old employer because they are short sighted about depression...keep up the fight and talking helps... Good.luck pal |

I suffer from depression too, that's why I come on here, to get out of the real world and into a world of sex & fantasy, cause every day life is shit, a bit like the film Ground Hog day, every day is the same unless you make it change to your advantage, relationships never work out the way you want it to, or jobs never last etc etc but at least on here you get to let your hair down and don't give a fuck & have fun, a temporary fix maybe but that's how I deal with it |
