Seeing more and more statuses not just here but on Facebook too about women having a "cheeky Prosecco" or prosecco this prosecco that, I've been unfortunate to have a glass and it's a vile drink, so bitter, so why is it so popular and why does it get name dropped? Is it a high society drink? |

I like a bottle of prosecco. I'm a member of The Wine Society, so I like a wide variety of wines. I think the thing is with prosecco, it can be expensive, but not champagne expensive, so people like to brag a little I think. Nothing wrong with that mind |

"I have mine with Chambord and fresh strawberries.
Oh and name dropping Prosecco sounds more sophisticated compared to White Lightning! "

Champagne ( im sure you know ) only gets it's title as it hails from the champagne region.
Prosecco and other sparkling whites are equal or BETTER than champagne but cannot call themselves champagne.
Years ago people used to hide the fact that they were serving prosecco.
People are less snobby now. They can afford to buy and drink prosecco and don't mind saying so.
Hundreds of pounds can be saved at weddings and other do's by serving prosecco. |

"Like champagne it's a pretentious thing and like champagne grossly over priced.
It's six quid a bottle!
There you go, over priced."
I bet you're a hoot at parties. |

"Not into it personally. I prefer White Zinfandel (barefoot especially) Jack Daniels, Ameretto or vodka.
Oh that barefoot is bloody lovely!
It's a favourite of mine. Had. Bottle last night. "

Wine merchants make a fortune out of all wines, most of which is actually worth a couple of quid a bottle.
Rick Stein rated a red in France, less than £1 a litre, as good enough to serve in his restaurant, how much would it be there do you think?
Oz Clarke in on record as saying all champagne, including Krug, is over priced for what it is.
We're just being ripped off and conned by wine merchants and advertising in this country.
I bet you're a hoot at parties."
