If you were going to spend 8 grand what would you get?

To make it easier we wouldn't touch any French car,Italian.

It's probably going to be German or Asian.

Factors are

Reliability

Economy

Reliability

Looks

And yes

Reliability.

Top of our list is a BMW 3 series.

Thanks

Mum's last motability car was a Peugeot 3008 diesel auto and it was awful to drive. Had terrible accelaration and felt like it was going to stall every time it changed gear.

Got the new car less than a month ago, a Skoda yeti and its fantastic. Still an automatic but a petrol engine. Not sure if its available in diesel.

Focus or Mondeo. Both cracking cars but the focus will hold its price longer

For that money you're in range for one of the cheaper end Honda civics. Look for the ones with the newer engine spec, monstrous fuel economy and it is a Honda do it'll never break

My Jaguar was very cheap to run. Our local Jag dealership did fixed priced servicing that was great value.

I needed a 4x4, so now have a Ford Kuga.

Both very good cars. I miss the Jag though

You could do a lot worse than a Skoda. Remember a lot of police forces and taxi drivers like them and they do high mileages and need reliability and comfort.

Alfa 159 2.4 Sportronic (Q4 if you can find one).

Stunning looks, reliable and powerful engine and a Ferrari gearbox.

BMW auto gearboxes are shockingly unreliable.

Worthing

Any diesel without a dpf or other complex engine mechanicals (in other words probably not a recent one!) Also to get your moneys worth, it's best if you do above 15k miles per year.
