"Could get a GoPro maybe?"
A gopro isn't really very good as a dash cam, it won't just switch on and record, it also won't continually overwrite. They're also rather more expensive than a dash cam.
The Nextbase stuff that Halfords sell are well rated, as are the Garmin ones.

"Just bought a new car and looking to purchase a dash cam, and suggestions as to which make is best please?
Looking at having the hard wired option preferably..."
Is the cam to help with parking |

I use nextbase cost me over £150 at the time of purchase. They now have a duel facing cam one for sale which records front and back and great nighto vision.
Amazon have them and you can see reviews and video footage on YouTube. Worth the money. |

Best to buy from Amazon, then if you don't like it it's easy to return. Ordered two now and didn't like either so sent them back. |

While I agree that it isn't ideal, the gopro can go to continuous overwrite mode. If you were thinking of buying one anyway, it can be used as a dashcam - I use mine for my commute, as well as other more GoPro-y stuff. |

I bought my son Road Angel dashcam last Xmas and he's very pleased with it. It's got front and rear cams, good quality recording, sensors etc etc. It was £170 from their website (reduced from £200). |

"Can recommend Transcend, had to take 2 x Nextbase back to Currys.
The £30 ones tend to work for 12 months + a day!! That's if they work that long! Had 2 of them, waste of time!"
Ok thank you x |

"Sainsburys do one for £19.99 can be found in their garages...it has ir sensors for lowlight conditions. Not hardwired but is either charged by USB or by batteries it uses a micro sd card. "
Seems to be either one end of the price range or the other, nothing middling.. interesting...
Thanks for sharing xx |

A GoPro is a bit OTT.
We have a cheap £30ish one that has lasted more than 12 months & a day. Records in HD, has the record lock thing, works with a micro SD card, and apparently records if there's a collision/bump while parked.
No installation needed, just plug it in and stick it on the dash. |

Just because they *may* refuse to accept the footage doesn't mean there's no value in still having one. |
