really hard to decipher these things on the webby - via chat etc -
its no sounding good at all but from initial things
its not a screen fail as the graphics are displaying a cursor at least
but it sounds not good a blank screen and nothing but the cursor
some laptops will have restore to factory defaults as recovery options or you can reinstall yourself
but on any other pc etc you may have you got access to google - type in simply
make model laptop name+blank screen on boot cursor only - google will find you pages n pages of geeky info that may help

"Not sure can't find the papper work also not sure the content is suitable for shop repair "
sounds like you need a swing-friendly techie to pop by and help out. there's probably one nearby who will be happy to look at it if you put the kettle on. |

google your model number and make (on a label underneath) and black screen or wont boot up.... ie
'dell n5050 wont boot'
It may be the video driver or card and so it cant use the display. It may just be the back light. Some lappys have a diagnostic mode that you can get into that gives a series of beeps to tell you whats up.

Think you got what we had gotten.when you said yes to system repair after the virus it was the virus.the same thing happen to my laptop lastweek.was told I should have not said yes to scannol straight away for virus but go into my owner virus scanner as the other one was the virus it deleats everything.best thing you can do is take it in for a full recovery |

If its only ever displaying a blinking cursor on teh screen its probably not a virus, as it would not have loaded yet as its not getting past the POST test and starting to load the OS.
Whats the make and model of it OP |

it may need the memory reseating
i've had a few like this in the shop
there will be a flap on under side of laptop with a picture of ram on it (memory) and it will have a screw.........unscrew lift the flap and you'll see the memory .theres two prongs either sid eneed pushign in to take the memory out of the laptop .simply remove the memory(carefully) as it has a clip each side that needs pushign to the side and carefully lift a little towards you then pull out.then simply ease the memory back into its slot until it clicks with the two clips then screw cover back on and turn on laptop............good luck |

"Thank you all very much for your help none of the suggestions worked the bloody thing is going out the window "
I dont think its a virus. it sounds like a corrupted file that is breaking the link whilst booting.
you may have to re load. better off going to a shop to get it done as they will be able to save your existing files when its done
(make sure theres nothing naughty on your hard drive first lol) |

nothing is ever deleted.........nothing
don't believe the hype with file shredders etc and what youve mentioned is alledgedlly used by the police ive seen alleged software used by the fbi to delete files etc and theres no such thing the only way to safely and 100% keep your data away from prying eyes is to remove the hard drive and destroy! ask your self why would the police need to delete files they only need to recover no matter what you hear(normally its been read from a website)like everything online is real? beleive what you like about file shredding software it does make it harder but it isnt 100% |
