Essex girls

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

Have you seen it? Women (2 I think) wanting to get the definition removed from the dictionary. Am I the only one that wasn't aware there was a dictionary definition?

Being a girl from Essex myself, I detest the stigma attached to Essex girls, but I don't think TOWIE done it any favours either (never watched an episode).

I don't get it as much now, but a while ago I'd get all the jokes and sly comments, people thinking you'd never heard them before and so on.

That said, I don't think people have these perceptions due to a dictionary definition, I think the definition is there due to the perceptions. I don't think it will go away, it has been around far too long for some women to go around saying, "remove that definition". It's just not going to happen (unfortunately).

....and let the Essex girl jokes/comments commence

That bloody show has given Essex a bad name on everything, not just our lovely ladies that reside here.

Having married an Essex girl, (18 years next month) I have nothing bad to say about them.... they are ALL lovely.

I wouldn't go as far to say all. But that's my own opinion

I just wonder where the accent came from in TOWIE, it makes me cringe.

Oh and 'that' show has also given us Essex boys a bit of a bad name too... soo many of them on there spend more time looking at themselves in a mirror than they do anything else.

Oh I know that, I remember hearing one at 14 and thinking yes I've heard it all before

I meant that the show hasn't done Essex girls any favours, or men (like marmite stated).

The highest MENSA IQ scorer is a girl From Essex.

it appears to me being a man from Essex then getting all the comments and steriotypes that when living in Cardiff, yet at the same time those people wanted to emulate the so calld Essex mindset or image it seemed cool and sexy.

I am.probably not helping the matter by rather sadly keeping an Essex dictionary of dialect and slang which I have been writing for a number of years now.

Another time I met someone who was trying to hide the fact he was a Enzine of Essex, he said he was from The Essex Suffolk border. unbeknown to him me and the girl he was speaking to were from Southend so we just badgered him untill he admitted he was from Colchester, which subsiquently became his nickname from his flat, which he hated.

Having a mother sister and daughter all as Essex girls can fully understand why they want the definition removed, its sexist, derogatory and outdated and isn't representative of any women from Essex...

Seen to remember The Scum newspaper were constantly plugging the stereotype and bad jokes in the 80's but they've always have and will be cunts...

That show did not help one bit when I told my kids I was seeing someone from Essex, they made so many jokes once at the dinner table about him, I actually cried as they went waaaay to far, all because of the little snippets they saw of towie.

Their perception is changing now though, they have been here enough times to see not everyone woman is bright orange or go around saying 'babes' (although doesn't help Ads and I say babe to each other while they are here and they wasn't used to me saying such things to their dad)

And the green stuff used all over the world on model railways for trees and shrubs comes from Leigh marshes.

I moved down here around 7 years ago. I love it. I love that there is so much green space, that I live on the major A road out of Southend, but I can walk 10 minutes down the road and be in a big wood complete with stream running through it.

I hate the fact that the River Thames is constantly referred to as 'the sea'. It isn't a bloody sea, it's a river.

I love walking from Southend, down to Old Leigh and eating fresh seafood.

There is some amazing landscape and history around.

Ah it's funny you mention that about the river, I took my ex to Colchester and the river was low and he was really confused by it, didn't understand why it was like that. I said you know about the tide don't you, had to explain it all to him. He'd only been around canals for most of his life.

"Walton-on-the-naze is still my favourite seaside to go to, mainly due to the childhood memories, eating fish and chips on the beach and not a load of competition going on like Clacton had.

I like Walton too, When we've dropped the kids at school we sometimes head over to Mersea on my M/C & have breakfast while listening to the clang, clang of yacht rigging

S

Not got stuck over there yet then?

No, got wet a few times where its been close, I have got stuck in the mud by the barges at Bradwell & lost my trainers though

S"

I done a team building course in bradwell, when I was 16. Raft building, rope climbing, obstacle courses, sailing to Mersea, oh not forgetting the crabbing! I loved it.

We are about five miles from where they will start building the second new nuclear power station. There's a decommissioned one there already so no biggy & H is from Basildon and spent most of her Friday & Saturday nights in BasVegas

Can't stand the towietwats though, same as the Kardashians, famous for fuck all.

the farther off the k's who is now a women was an Olympic gold medalist in decathalon and he was the face of some cerial. Thats how they made their money orriginally.

The father of the Kardashian's was OJ Simpson's barrister in the murder trial.

Gain & Stacey was all filmed in Wales...

Obviously you didn't see the filming in Essex then.... Southend, Bas Vegas and other local points around Billericay "

Sorry, you are correct. I should have said, I read that none of the Billericay scenes were filmed in Essex...

eating cockles with a cocktail stick in vinegar wonder if they,d go with mushy peas, I tried whelks a number of times but to chewy like trying to eat a packet of wrigleys chewing gum.. and mussels apart from the whelks I,ve picked the others fresh from the coast off the rocks etc used to spend hours around rock pools when a youngster it was surpriseing what they held.
