It is one of the biggest decision facing the capital, but tomorrow we will finally hear if gatwick or heathrow gets the runway, in the eve of the announcement they are debating, but there are many residence that dont like the idea as there would be more noise pollution, who do you reckon will get it?. |

Up here it's irrelevant, Glasgow, Manchester, Edinburgh, even Amsterdam are so much more convenient.
Only use London if flights don't go to above.
Newcastle rocks but it doesn't do a lot of long haul stuff. |

Coming from the Hayes and Harlington area I can see how the 3rd runway would fuck the whole area up. But I suppose it's up to the tories so it's more about keeping their voters and benefactors happy so likely Heathrow |

There was an interesting scientific paper that was done after 911 when they downed all flights for about 3 days, for a long time we'd known about sulphate aerosols, but it was a great time to see the average temperatures in the us being higher and lower than norms during those days without any aircraft flights......
.
To clarify in short, build your fucking runway, I've stopped giving a shit.... |

Are they not just going to decide on which one they are going to recommend, then talk about it for a year before deciding which one it should be, before doing a feasibility study to figure out if it makes sense....
I vote for Birmingham |

Heathrow. It's the obvious choice and the decision - or the fact that they've chosen to delay taking it again for another year, is plain stupid and wrong, when they've had decades planning and reviewing it.

I would definitely prefer Birmingham, with extra capacity trains etc for the rest of the country. |

Yes but at Heathrow u av the motor way! An also kestreles don't forget them, an houses wood be better, shame it can't be built at biringham!
It's like this new train line running from London to the north, y not add extra line in an then use the middle line for non - stop an the fast trains rather than going through farm an people's homes, cause the m40 already went through some farmers fields, I lived really close to motor way, an it as it's advantages an disadvantaged like everything does rant over. ..... |

The time it's taken to get to this point is a joke really........ if it had been elsewhere in the world there would be flights taking off it by now!!

"For 80% of the country it's mostly academic. I can't see why it can't be in the midlands, as Sophie has said and invest some money outside of London. "
Simple because London is the financial hub of not only the UK, but of Europe.

I seem to recall that 5000 premature deaths a year are attributed to current Heathrow pollution levels. Other countries are gradually beginning to move thier airports away from densely populated areas. I am no green but it seems bizarre to even consider Heathrow. |

I dunno a rough guess would be Half a tonne of fuel per plane 1400 take offs a day, so you've got 750 tonnes of kerosene being burnt above your head on a daily basis.... What harm could possibly come of it? |

That's ok, it may not be for much longer thanks to Brexit. |

Given that any runway is not likely to be ready until 2030 and this is so-called planning for capacity up to 2050 then the choice decision is already way to late.
The only sensible option, surely, is to build both! (And probably a second runway in brum....which could be linked up with HS2.)
However I shall return to this forum in 10 years time where I would think there is a 50/50 chance that we will still be waiting a decision.
The last 4/5 parliaments had the same debates and went round in circles. All parties have a large enough chunk of MPs representing areas which may be affected! |

By the time any government gets round to signing deals and work happening, we're likely to be in a new century and it won't matter to most of us
It'll run hundreds of years overdue, gadzillions of £'s over budget, and be inadequate when it's finished.
Me....cynical, just a tad |

Would it be not best to give it to Gatwick, take a bit of pressure of heathrow, as heathrow is in the top 5 busiest airports in the world (I'm sure).
I'd also nominate london city airport, see if that could be expanded any, surly could be done.
Almost as if heathrow always gets 1st choice/most attention, There are other airports. |
