Into dance music?
Jump to: Newest in thread
Its nice to have something in common with people you're interested in so i'm wondering, Are there any members who are into the dance music scene? We are oldskool. 90s rave kids so still enjoy the odd event. I'd love to know if there are any other oldskoolers or clubbers here? |

I'm heavily into trance music. Armin, Above & Beyond, Super 8, Tinliker, Deadmaus, Arty, Jerome Lamar.
Though it takes new a few days to recover now, after an evening of throwing shapes in the church of dance... |

"We met in Dance Academy (some good vids on youtube) and all our meets here are accompanied by edm cd's or Kiss Anthems on the radio."
Went to helter skelter technodrome before when I was 16
Used to buy all the 8 and 12 pack cassettes, even had one of those hardcore heaven bomber jackets |

First rave was Obsession in '92. My funeral song is Bizarre Inc - Playing With Knives https://www.youtube.com/shared?ci=EhLf2FUvni8
Love old school rave, less so the trance, hardcore and EDM nonsense it became |

I started clubbing at the age of 18 in 1996. Love the dance music scene, especially old skool stuff. Went to ibiza for the first time in 2000. Aiya Napa the year after 2001. Saw David Guetta DJ at Pacha in Ibiza about 4 years ago "fuck me I'm famous night".
As for dance music on the swinging scene get yourselves along to the Dpraved events at xtasia. They are brill and had some big name DJ's headline there, Danny Rampling, Brandon Block and Jon Pleased Wimmin to name a few. |

Absolutely love dance, trance & old skool. Problem is these days the nearest we can come to dance music is some cheap pop song that's been fiddled with. Back in my day.... |

I was a regular at Bugged Out! in Sankey's Soap in the 90s. Happy, happy days . Would love a night losing myself in the music at a club again but wouldn't know where an old geezer like me would fit in these days. |

There's quite a few clubs, festivals and party organisers who do dance music nights in various different ways giving good access to all the eras and genres, age ranges across the board ...

I used to be until I started working events.
More trouble, drug related medical issues, fights and all that shit at dance events than any other genre focused event.
It's not a scene I like any more mainly because of the folk who inhabit it.
Think it came to a head for me at gatecrasher summer sound system a few years ago where I found a dead chap..spark face down on the floor in the cement tent..people laughing at him for being a lightweight and not being able to handle his drugs, they were taking photos ffs...He was dead. Folk were too off their tits to know or care
We shut down the tent. People moaned!
Dance events are the worse to work..hands down. |

That's terrible but the complete opposite experience, atmosphere and ethics to pretty much every dance music event and club I've been to, ranging from a converted municipal swimming pool in Berlin, to I Love Techno 3 times in Belgium, Nature One in Germany, Dance Valley in Amsterdam and Warehouse Project in Manchester, to name a few.
I'm mainly into my techno genres, from minimal to hard, electro and house. Dnb, neurofunk, tekstep, some dubstep, house |

I'd have to agree with ElectroCarl, thats got to be far and few between. I work alot of events and have never see anything like that when someone is in trouble. Whenever i've known anyone get into trouble medically the ravers have always been very good. Especially the oldschool events and i would of thought Gatecrasher would of been the same.
I do have to say the youngsters nowadays at events playing deephouse can be quite moody. They are drinking and taking alot more then love doves. |

I only tend to see things from a work angle at events so that changes things for me I think..medical and ejection centres at dance events are always huge...and busy. (Not exclusively though..The in the park is pretty bad, ejection centre gets that busy I'm surprised Annie mac doesn't come do a set in there)
From the punters side I used to like it..went to helter skelter once or twice, 'ardshock and a couple of other local raves and such and it was fun enough but yeah..my view has been pretty tainted now.

i like the stuff about 3 years ago but current mainstream dance seems to be pop pithle light no base to it all threab and and not enough base. I seem to prefer underground trap and trance atm. and stuff from tge past like klxm, gala and Dominequa. |

It was a horrible event full stop..wind shut the main stage..mist so thick it felt eerie somehow and then that..I genuinely despaired for humanity that night..fairly had to hold back the tears sat in catering with c.i.d at three a.m reciting events over and over again over tepid coffee and cigarettes
Gatecrasher never paid us either for that event (i think they made losses) so yeah...I don't like gatecrasher. |

No I've not heard of those but my memory struggles slightly about that period....clean living nowadays btw.
Also worked at The Eclipse in Coventry, Birmingham Institute . The Astoria ran by the crazy club (yes they were)....and for a period on held at The Event club on Brighton seafront. Go to any of those ? |

Out of interest, does anyone on here have a TB303? I've got six now. Four are well used but still work fine, I use them for playing around with in the studio. The other two are still in their original _oxes, unused as far as I know.
TB303 sequences are so easy but so effective. |

I used to be asst manager of a nightclub many years ago, so have kept tabs on the musical styles and scene.
Pete Tong, Judge Jules and Paul Oakenfold ruled the airwaves - who can forget Paul's set at the party for the handover of Hong Kong to the Chinese??
Then along came Tiesto, Above and Beyond, and Paul van Dyke but as for my personal favourite, the title has to go to Armin van Buuren.

3 days in Ushuaia overlooking the stage from our room with Hardwell, Guetta, ivichi and Axwell followed by Carl Cox and fat boy slim in Space ibiza was one of my highlights of this year. |

If you like your dark, relentless, pounding techno, I can't recommend Dense & Pika enough.
Gutted not to have made it to Tobacco Docks on Saturday for the Drumcode Halloween party. Heavy heavy line-up! |

I used to go all over the country, dreamscape, rez, bowlers, carlos2 to name just a few.. They were amazing times, even better than swinging!!
Hoping to go to warehouse project this weekend if my mate pulls his finger out, but I doubt I can dance like the old days...

"Its nice to have something in common with people you're interested in so i'm wondering, Are there any members who are into the dance music scene? We are oldskool. 90s rave kids so still enjoy the odd event. I'd love to know if there are any other oldskoolers or clubbers here? "
YES!! And we still get it on at the DPraved events which are simply AWESOME! |

Love old school house and funky house. My first proper club cassette that I had was from the gallery in Leeds and it had wigfields Saturday night on it and we thought it was a tune... well we all know what happened to that "tune". |

That will be the last weekend in January. Rumour grapevine is that it will be something special as there is a crew coming over from Cap d'Agde, a holiday to Cap to be won and a headline, top name DJ. |

Wigan pier. The Sanctuary and a few others in the mid 90s. Plus westfest and a few dreamscapes/hardcore heavens were attended. Plus the local venues.
Dougal. Hixxy. Sy and unknown. Vibes and livelee along with the few mc's are quality. Still listen to my cassette compilations.
Otherwise I will listen to all the oldskool stuff of the same periof. The more commercial music.
(He says currently listening to Phil Collins greatest hits ) |

Great video..
Here's one of my favourites, granted no visuals but I can give you excellent MCing skills... Although I have matured a bit since them days haha..
I was there that night so I could well be a little biased?
See what you think, Carlos2, the MC being JFMC when he was in his good days, just setting out on the road to stardom...
