Just listening to Under The Milky Way Tonight by The Church and realised it's an old old tune that gets very very little air play even though it's immediately accessible and was probably a hit in its day.

Anyone wanna share some similar lost 45s?

The first record I ever bought was Chuck Berry... My ding-a-ling.... which meant I narrowly avoided having to live down buying Little Jimmy Osmond's ... Long haired lover from Liverpool.. which was the only other option available to me at the time..

Joe Dolce is the reason Vienna by Ultravox is the best selling single to never get to number one. It can happily remain lost that one

Are there any other famous hits that 'missed the number one slot' because of a ghastly over popular ditty?

You're lucky...I wasn't allowed to buy My Ding A Ling on account of its dubious content....so my first purchase is the one you narrowly avoided (albeit along with Nice One Cyril!!).

My lost 45 was the B side to Breathing: Kate Bush, The Empty Bullring. I love this song.

haha .... unfortunately it was not a commercial success....in-fact by no stretch of the imagination a success at all.....

It was back in the day of coloured vinyl and picture discs and limited editions .....so we decided to offer a double B side on black plastic,,,

I think we thought we were being anti establishment cool...
