Looking for some tips here mostly on jogging/running. I am a big lad I know that and do a good bit of power lifting and currently in the bulking up stage.
How much jogging should I be doing to keep the heart muscle pumping away.
I know the common answer will be do what your body can handle.

"How about a static cycle instead? Might be less impact damage. "
Thought about that but was wanting the fresh air and the cold morning air at the same time. I kniw jogging can be a killer on the knees. |

I know a few power lifters and they all avoid jogging like the plague. If you want to get your heart rate up a couple of times a week, try static cycling as a previous poster mentioned or cross trainer. |

Or try the rower. I was a competetive powerlifter and coach and running is not great especially for the heavier lifters. Rowing involves the strength element but there is no impact on the knees. |

There's no reason that jogging should be a killer on the knees. If you're powerlifting a few times a week, I would aim to do two or three 5k runs at sub-30 minutes each week. |

And if you buy a pair of zero drop minimalist running shoes and start using those, you'll also improve your squat by increasingly your leg flexibility and strength in the lower range. |

I was thinking 30 mins or 45 mins with jogging and power walking combined. |

"Rowing and static cycle seems the way then. I shall put both to use. Thanks for the replies."
You could do ten minutes on the rower, bike and treadmill. A good varied 30 minutes then. |

Walking at a brisk speed on an incline into double figures is a good workout but make sure you don't hold on at the steeper inclines as its piss easy when you do! |

The other thing I would consider is HIIT classes. I used to run a HIIT for powerlifters class when I was training powerlifters and bodybuilders and that went down really well with the guys looking to get their cardio up and drop their weight. We used to follow it up with a short yoga class to maintain/increase their flexibility and keep them healthy. |
