Spot someone and decide to message them. Make the message personal, light hearted, compliment the pics and offer chatting or a social so we can get to know each other.
I did end it with a 'hope to hear from you but if not then good luck' type ending
Get a reply and after falling off my chair I have a look.
The sum is total is 'thank you'
So do I move on or is the fact that she took the time to reply an indication of interest?
Is it a thank you to 'nice pics and profile' or 'thanks and goodbye' to the end of the message.
I get very few replies so this has confused me |

I know how you feel. It's the bad apple spoiling the bunch thing with me.
I stopped sending messages weeks ago to new people because of this and similar.
Imagine your conversations if you meet? |

If I reply like that, it's a "hmm I'm not sure I'm interested, but if you can charm the pants off me, I might be".
I'd reply with something witty, charming and fuck knows what that would be. So glad I'm not a single guy on here!
(sorry) |

How about:
"So I heard back from you, and once I had picked myself up off the floor, I entered a strange world of confusion as to whether to reply, henceforth to the forums I trotted in my confusion whereupon a skinny fella from just up the road said "how about:...."
So thanks for the reply... my name is x. This is my face pic, I think my profile is pretty succinct but if you have any questions, please ask away" |

The person to send the first message has to really play all his card doesn't he.
Op. I'd leave it alone. Or maybe one back.
"Your welcome "
See how that goes down. |

I/we would assume, if someone was really interested, then they'd put more effort into their reply than just thank you.
Personally, we would leave it. Conversation is a two way street, after all.

Seriously what's the worst that can happen? You get blocked? It's hardly pushy replying... maybe she is shy? Maybe your initial message didn't give her much to work with (you sent a self closing message). I would take a chance on a humourous reply (I'd get someone else to write it because I am dead inside).. nothing ventured, nothing gained... |

me personally would not message her again right away I'd add her to my hot list and leave it a few days checking in on my hotlist regularly in the mean time .
you see I feel you have shown her you exist you like her and for her part she has acknowledge your interest and the fact you exist .
next move for me would be to wait until she uploads a new picture adds a interesting status update and then message her about one or the other showing you haven't forgotten about her and reminding her of your interest once more which she has shown she has acknowledges and at least shown some interest back to you.
her first short reply could be for a number of reasons other than the one you think . so for that reason I'd act in the way I detailed after all fella Rome was built in a day and bedding a woman is best taken slowly and enjoyed as for to no other reason than the chase is half the fun and something hard won is always more enjoyable in my case than something handed to me on a plate

Me too; question... do you find that you buy too many vegetables each week? Because I keep having to throw spuds away and I feel its wasteful; in fact the whole vegetables going off thing is the worst part of being single, that and
- the lonely nights
- the uncontrolled sobbing whilst laying naked in an empty bath
- the requirement to talk to other similarly unfortunate people down the local pub
- getting an invite with a +1 (darkens me for days that one)

So I went with a humorous reply as a follow up - before The 'play it cool' suggestion.
Got a 'haha' out of it and a request for further pics so we'll see. This is where it usually goes pear shaped |

I would send that if I was just being polite, a way to acknowledge the message. If I'm interested, I tend to write more in depth, with a question put in, so they know I'd like a reply. |

Personally I'd interpret that as a genuine than you for the compliment, but not interested in taking things further. It's one up from a harsh delete. It's what we do if people complement the pics but demonstrate they've not read our profile and just generally come out with some crap like 'How's you'? Or worse still, 'How are you's'. Actually shit like that would get the harsh delete. Enjoy the thank you, your remark was appreciated I'd say. |

I don't continue when I get one or two word replies. I'd say the vast majority of the time it means 'not interested' and the rest of the time it means they're bad at conversation. Either way, no point continuing. |

When I was a single girl I would sometimes send a reply like that to someone who had the potential to interest me but gave me very little to respond to (either through their message or their profile).
I would get a lot of messages and trying to start a conversation from a compliment was difficult for me. It's not that I couldn't put in the hard work to have a conversation, it's just that I didn't always have the time or the inclination to do so.
If your first message to someone is one full of compliments, or just a general hello, in fairness what you are expecting is for the recipient to put the hard work into a meaningful response and a proper conversation starter to someone who has made the first contact with them.
In this case she didn't say no... So maybe you just gave her nothing more to reply to other than thank you. The forum can speculate the reasons but the only person that can justify the response is the one who sent it.

On my profile I say I'm not meeting at the moment. So when I get a message complimenting me I reply in a similar way as I'm not meeting so there is no point in starting to chat but I don't want to ignore as it seems rude xx |

"Spot someone and decide to message them.
Does her profile demand more than just 'Hi' as an opener ?
I get very few replies so this has confused me "

"she probably said thank you for wishing her luck.
sad to see people take anything as a sign of sexual interest. "
It's Ok - I didn't read the whole thread either |

"Who resurrected this? Is it that quite in here we go looking for posts 8mths old.
"
I was reminiscing about old Pauly so thought I'd see if I could find it and realised that there never was an ending to it |
