I just got back from a week and a bit there. Words fail me for how much trash talk is going on between the "candidates" rather than any actual politics. And the media just seem to be making up anything they please and going with it! The tv pundit supporters of Trump are cringingly sycophantic and Clinton's sole case for election seems be that she isn't Trump! Incredible that a couple of billion folks couldn't produce better than these two. |

Now Trump has declared that he believes if he loses then the vote was rigged (a statement he didn't retract in the debate), I think a lot of his more rabid supporters may take to the streets and baring in mind these people are also gun nuts it could be a turbulent time.
I also don't think that if there is widespread civil unrest that Clinton is the person to calm the waters |

Yep this is the type of crap that gets pulled in developing countries not in the developed world!! Utter nonsense
Either candidate is a disaster for the US and the rest of the world. Sad times |

I listened to some of the debate last night - it's piss-poor.
Not that this country exactly covered itself with glory over the quality of debate with the EU referendum but at least there was a discussion, rather than two idiots telling bare-faced lies in the simplest way possible...
Oh, hang on...

I think his statement about it being rigged is quite correct, not that I favour him being elected either. Agree with all - they have a choice of bad and bad, but the biggest issue, even if two decent candidates is the way the media is being allowed to generate and influence people. If they were selling a bottle of shampoo it be illegal to sell such misrepresentation.
What concerns me is that type of media is becoming prevelant here in the U.K., look at ITV 10pm news now, they've adopted this American style of not just reporting the news with a balanced report, but instead commenting on it and putting a view forward.(which may not necessarily be the facts or correct view) along with selective editing that leaves a one sided or unbalanced report.
It's so wrong, as it influences people - but not by educating them with the facts, so they can form their own decisions, but pushes them in a direction to believe something which may not be entirely the case.
A news report should have an equal set of facts or interviews for both sides, but you watch some channels in th us, and all you see is Clinton, Clinton Clinton, and interviewing people who support her. How is that not going to start to influence people she's the right person to vote for!
I think neither will survive very long, whoever gets in, but let's hope some good comes from it, and someone looks at how the whole process was allowed to be run, because as someone posted above - out of billions of Americans, that's the best they could provide? Which shows how it's money and media that are driving it, not democracy. |

Have you actually listened to the stuff he says at his rallys and whatnot? Not the particularly outlandish claims and horrifying opinions that get reported, I mean actually listened to him talk. It's gibberish. Absolute gibberish. It's like when you get cornered by the mental d*unk in your local boozer, he's clearly very angry and passionate about something, but he's not exactly sure who or what so he's just letting loose a mostly incoherent stream of consciousness rant about nothing in particular.
Have a look at Peter Serafinowicz's "sassy Trump" videos on YouTube. When his words are re-dubbed with extra cattiness it really brings home what utter gobbledegook he's churning out. |

We have term limits for president. It was a constitutional amendment that was ratified after Franklin Roosevelt won 4 consecutive terms and died in office. |

I believe it's to safeguard against the democratic system being undermined. A president serving multiple terms could gradually become a dictator, something like that. |

I agree with you. I don't like presidential term limits. There are natural limits on a person's ability to win presidential re-election in the US. Even before FDR there was no one else who had won more than 2 terms. I think we should get rid of them.
I do, however, think that we should institute term limits to Congress and the Senate, which do not have the same natural barriers to re-election as the presidency. But that's a topic for a different thread |

Its the homophobic, sexist, and xenophobic rhetoric that makes him completely unfit for the presidency. Especially in the US, where we already have too many problems with that nonesense. As for his business skills, we'll have to agree to disagree. I have a vote, and its going to be for Hillary. |

It's funny to mock Hillary, sure. And I have not been a fan of hers since her vote for the Iraq war. However, I see the danger of a Trump presidency so I'm voting for her. And the rhetoric you're bandying about on this thread is exactly the reason why I fear what will happen the day after election day if Hillary wins. Not because she'll be president, but because Trump is inciting mindless violence with his baseless claims and hate-mongering. |

No. That is a biased way of describing the situation. It was the field director of Americans United for Change, an organization which worked with the DNC, who is on tape giving ideas for how to spark Trump supporters into turning violent. It's a dirty tactic, yes. But he never condoned being violent himself nor is there a direct link to the Clinton (the DNC, yes). It was horrible anyway, though.
And here is where I can insert clip after clip of Trump attempting to openly incite violence - telling people to punch protestors at his rallies, insinuating that someone should exercise their 2nd amendment right against Hillary (in other words, shoot her), and above all by claiming that this election is rigged and sending supporters to "certain neighborhoods" on election day to make sure the voting is legal. He's all but called for violence of he loses the election. I'll be suprised if there isn't any on election day anyway. |

I think you will find that Monica was a willing and consentual sex partner of Bill Clinton.
He also left the American economy in a better state on leaving the job than on starting it, only one since Roosevelt I think. And did a hell of a lot for the UK by stopping the USA funding of the Irish terrorists and bringing the various parties to the table. The current peace is not perfect, but Irish and English citizens are not getting blown up anymore.
I honestly don't know how good or bad the next American president will be, but I am pretty sure if it's a republican government only the already wealthy will not suffer, and the rest of the world will not do very well either.

And the rhetoric you're bandying about on this thread is exactly the reason why I fear what will happen the day after election day if Hillary wins. Not because she'll be president, but because Trump is inciting mindless violence with his baseless claims and hate-mongering.
totally with you there marc. sadly a lot of people seem to be against Hilary as she is a woman, whilst accepting the lunacy that is Trump. it would be fantastic for a woman to become the President of the USA and show to women around the world that no role is beyond them. to lose to Trump, of all people, would be devastating... "
And a statement like that is exactly why sexism exists in the first place! She should get in because she's a woman! How about the best person for the job gets in(in this case neither of them) but if I was a woman and achieved something great like that and people pointed out my sex when I did - I'd feel somewhat miffed and question now if I got it because I was good or just the "female" vote because I'm a woman.
Women are capable of achieving anything - but be far better world and not make people become sexiest if - every time a woman does something or wants to, we didn't get excited and make out it's amazing because she a woman! And instead judged them as a human and what they doing. By making a statement about her sex - is actually fuel to the view women are some how less capable - ohhh look a woman managed to do as well as a man - clever girl. |
