12 year old car needing an exhaust. I would have a go myself but not sure if i can tackle it without car ramps. Would a mild steel one from a local garage last a few years? |

Mild steel would do perfectly fine, and unless you have the ramps I wouldn't even contemplate fitting it myself, a local garage would have it done in less than half the time, plus you should get a year or even two year warranty.
DON'T go to the big boys such as Half fords, or Quick rip off Fit as they will take your eyes out, instead ring around some of the smaller garages or Exhaust/Tyre specialist they can be a lot cheaper than the Big Boys. |

I wouldn't even think about it if you haven't got ramps.
Although I once changed a fuel tank on a Nissan Bluebird which was on scissors and trolley jacks(yes I know) . I did have the wheels under the car, just in case |

get a price from a back street garage for supply and fitting and fitting too then check the local motor factors too for a price of the exhaust see which is the best for you |

Got mine done at Halfords the other day. Brilliant. Took the car in there on the Monday morning after it broke the day before, Tuesday lunchtime it was ready to be picked up. Good price, warranty, sorted. |

"Does it have a cat? Which bit is knackered?"
This poor man's needing an exhaust and you're on about cats?! This I'd a time for action, not pets!
Before someone gets all uppity, that was a joke... |

It took them a day to put an exhaust on ? our exhaust centre fits them while we wait, |

Type in your car model and the word breaking in eBay & then nearest first, when you find someone breaking similar ask if the pipe us any good and how much for cash then ask can they fit or recommend anyone who can.. done that loads of times with stuff like windscreens gearboxes or engines |

It's literally a 10 minute job of they have a ramp, how on earth cam they justify taking that long to do it?
I'll ring my garage, they will give me a time, I'll turn up and they'll chuck it on whilst I wait.
I was slightly annoyed to discover that my local auto factors has closed down today (I needed a headlight bulb) and I was forced to go to Hal fords...
They said they would fit it for £8...cheeky feckers! £8 for 5 minutes work? |

near a big hill in s/ shropshire NOT in |
Personally I'd not mess about and get it done by an independent local garage ,
Ask around locally who's reliable and good !! Cheap isn't always best !!!! Use someone recommend,
Good luck , op |

Just ring your local parts supplier, give them your vehicle registration and they will tell you exactly how much each piece will cost. Add an hour or two labour on top of that and you have a good guesstimate. |

Yes it has a cat. The bit blowing is behind the silencer but the whole length is pitted heavily"
If you've a Jayar/AJ near you they usually come up cheapest for parts or Euro's sometimes have a sale on, unless it's blowing there's no need to replace a section that doesn't need it |

They had to order the part. (They also did a service and changed the cam belt) |
