I suspect it's slightly different if you are a man or a woman and where you live. There's 2 big free sites (Okcupid and pof), one of which (pof) has the largest number of profiles of any site. However the ease of making profiles means guys can make multiple profiles, delete and reappear and do anything without much risk (so he gets banned, so what).
Of the 2 big paid sites (match and eharmony) the later makes you go through a convoluted q&a with the other person before you can message. They also give you a limited number of matches each day, most of which seem to be no match at all. Match is a bit more straight forward but you do have to pay.
There are all sorts of other sites but in the NE there seems to very few people who live nearby. To be honest that's probably true of Fab as well. What is a boy to do...? Lol

i deleted my badoo (kind of, i'm not even sure it's possible to delete it as the process is only filling in 2 boxes but it's hard to do, so i just deleted al my details and pics), people still message me on there. i'm not logging into it to see what they sent. |

I've tried POF, OkayCupid, Tinder, Match and E-harmony.
Paid subscriptions to at least three of the above and have had 1 meet in 4 years.
All a waste of time and money. Hasn't worked for me in the slightest. I'm still on the free sites, check on them once in a while but to no avail.

I used to b relatively successful on free dating sites, but gave up on them maybe 2 years ago. That said, I 'made' 2 of my girlfriends try it, even wrote their profiles for them, one of them got married mid Sept and one of them has a 2year old daughter, with men they met online. |

I might be a little late on this thread. My experiences on the one that rhymes with patch did get a bit legendary.
