We have been a number of times using our Colchester Zoo passes which gets access to Chester as well as other zoos. Chester is fantastic, could spend hours just in the Realm Of The Red Ape orangutan enclosure alone.
Deefinitely one of the best zoos we've been to in the UK, far better than London Zoo.

You should go again as they've created a new dome, and Asian complex, and are moving the orange in there |

Yeah we've been wanting to go back since they opened the new complex but as it's a weekend away trip for us have to plan it a little.

Mono rail is great for flashing lol. Bat cave is great for getting felt up in the dark. The new Asian Islands feature is fabulous. I've been going on and off for nearly all of my life and it gets better every time I go. |

"Go twice yearly it's our favourite zoo- love all the new islands bit too. "
The lazy river boats are ace. A welcome relief for the feet after a day of walking round |

Love Chester Zoo even though it's nowhere near us it's well worth the effort to drive up there. It's often a birthday weekend trip for me. I've got a big thing for orangutans so seeing them there in the best enclosures the UK has (for orangs) is brilliant. I used to hang out on a zoo forum being the nerd I am but via that was lucky enough to join an all day behind the scenes private tour of all their primates which was amazing .... ridiculously low price as it was for zoo enthusiasts, and we were taken to areas the public never sees, even those closed off to the 'normal' keeper for a day sessions. That included the old orang house (interesting from an historical POV) which houses the male Bornean orange who's kept off show .... though he might be housed elsewhere now the Sumatran orangs have all been moved to the Islands. Highlights were standing 2 feet away from female orangs separated by just one wire fence and climbing about in the roof of the Realm of the Red Ape.
I'll stop now .... have just realised the ridiculousness of harping on about a zoo on a swinging site. Though I guess it's a bit like a zoo in here some days anyhow ....

"Wasn't there a fab swinging social there last year?
Remember it being spoken of, but no idea if it actually happened"
It got cancelled last minute for personal reasons. Mrs ddc was up for that one. (I was worried we'd be left with the gorillas )

"Sounds like it's had a revamp, not been in years. Might have to go again.
Just a shame there is never any discounts on entrance "
And nor should there be, the money goes towards preserving rare and endangered species, as well as educational programs and enhancements of the zoo for visitors. They deserve every penny they can get. |

It's a lot cheaper than going to a footy match or the theatre |
