I wasn't supposed to be abroad for work until January now but I've been asked to go the end of next month and my passport will have expired(bad planning on my part)
Pretty sure it won't take long as it's a quieter time of the year but I've always done it via post and paperwork
Could drive to Newport but would rather not
Has anyone used the online renewal recently, how long did it take and am I correct that I can send digital images and not have to get a doctor etc etc to sign it as it's online
Cheers in advance for any info from anyone who has renewed it this way

Hi
I used the online renewal form but still had to send it off with the pics, I may have missed the option to send them digitally though.
It took 5 days to be returned after I had posted it |

Thank you that's brilliant, did you have to get pics signed by teacher doctor etc or not because it's a renewal ?

Used online renewal in May and passport was back in 5 days. Didn't need to have photos verified, just printed the form, signed it and sent it with the pics. Had a text to say it was on its way back to me - next day it was through the door. Think because it's a renewal and you pay online there is less to process for them, goes to a dedicated office. Hope this helps. |

When I renewed, I did it all digitally. I'm sure they can link your driving licence photo. Or maybe it was the other way round.
But you should have time if your not travelling till end of November. |

Mine took two weeks. Take a clear head and shoulder face picture with your phone. Use a plain background, upload it, they'll tell you automatically if the photo is good. Then just post your old passport. So long as your phone is up to date it'll take digital pictures. |

Be very careful online. Id like to think I'm quite net savvy. However I filled out an online application. Thinking it was the proper gov website. Even paid the right fee. Turns out to be 3rd party who charges the same fee. Just to send you a pre filled application form.

The only delay we had when getting new passports earlier this year was due to us, otherwise it would all have been done within 2 weeks. We didn't send them our old passports as they had expired 10 years ago, we had moved house since we last used them and I wasn't sure where they were or if we still had them.
But the passport office were excellent in their help and communication, we had the same bloke on the phone so we wasn't dealing with a new person every time. |

I had mine renewed at the beginning of this year, got a manager at work to sign my pics, paid the extra at the post office for them to double check everything and my passport was back within a week |

I renewed mine online in august. Uploaded new pics and didn't have anything signed as they could still recognise me from previous passport. New passport arrived a week later.

8 days turn round doing the online / postal thing from overseas; delivered to me by hand in France.
If you have not changed significantly since your previous photo, then it doesn't need signing.
Very efficient service.
If you are really pushed for time, and it's for a business purpose, you can call them and they will jump yours in the queue too. |

I have renewed recently. I filled the form out and took it to the post office and paid the extra fee for the check and send service thingy.
You don't have to fill out too much of the form for a renewal, I think it's 3 sections and you don't have to get anyone to verify the new photos unless you have changed drastically since your last passport picture. It took just over a week to be sent back |

I just re-newed a second passport a few weeks ago id suggest book it online and do the one day service, that way its in your hands 4 hours later done and dusted, cost a few quid more but worth it in my eyes! |

Just a quick note to say that the service has been absolutely fantastic
A friend of mine had his passport stolen from his car yesterday afternoon. He is flying tomorrow morning.
I phoned the passport office in Belfast yesterday and they arranged an appointment to pick up his new one at Liverpool this morning..
Given the circumstances I even waived my fee for signing his the back of his photos. |
