Sexual health clinic experiences

So today I ventured to a different clinic as the local one always has me waiting for hours before being seen.
It was a different experience to what I'm used to, the lady was really intrigued about the swinging scene, saying she had ventured past lib elite quite often and always wondered what it was like. Anyway we ended up chatting about clubs for at least 15min and her entire view of the scene has completely changed, but she has no interest in venturing into it.
So do you have chats about it all when you go to the clinic for your check ups, or has the nurse been a little repulsed by it all? |

Last time I went (2 weeks ago) it has changed (we were off the scene for 18 months) the reception staff were arsy and told me no walk ins left so I said can I make a appt and the reply was no we don't make appointments  . Anyway ended up going back a day later and got a walk in but it was a older nurse and she wasn't very nice and kept looking over her glasses at me 
Anyway prior to that when it was the old system it was great at I used to chat to the nurse about the scene and she was similar age to me so we would laugh about it and she got know me quite well. |

They've always been perfectly pleasant and professional with me, without expressing any kind of judgement or real interest either way, which suits me just fine.
There are usually some sights in the waiting room though and I stick out like a sore thumb. |

Always professional where I go, although they raise their eyebrows when they see me/or read my notes as to how hard it is to draw blood on me (often ends up having to be out of top of my hand) and the most experienced phlebotomist is usually called (he has a nickname Dracula!)  |

We were there two days ago and they were as good as they usually are. We did have to wait half an hour (even though we'd made an appointment) as there were so many 'walk ins'. P asked for a doctor to have a peek as she'd had a pain but it was just down to her tilted cervix...Which according to the doctor was "A good looking cervix indeed". I suppose it must be a doctor thing to think a cervix is 'good looking' though. We even got some lube to try out as well as the usual brown paper bag with condoms in. I was the oldest there by far though  |

Haha some of you have made me laugh.
The one I went to today had one person in, but if I go to Leicester it's normally rammed and I hate it.
I had one done through an appointment at a doctors before and they done my test using a urine sample and informed me that's how they do them now, but since then it's never been a urine sample, always swabs. |

Do you men not get told to go and do your own swabs then? This one I was told to but the last one I wasn't. Seems they all run the service differently. |

They've always been really non-judgmental when I've been. I always booked 1st appt of the day & it was at local hospital - I always worried about bumping into my dad at work as the door is off the x-Ray dept. It also dealt with a lot of IVF testing so you never knew why people were there.
The clinic moved from the hospital to the borough council offices which happens to be about 200 metres from where I work so really handy for when I next need to go!!!

I'm never worried about bumping into people as I'd just think well at least they're looking after themselves. But suppose a family member may wonder why you need to go.
I know the one in Leicester deals with various things, so could be in there for any reason too. |

I've had a mix but generally really fabulous treatment. Two nurses were once all high and mighty religious about hiv and testing on one visit. Generally I have friendly chats and we talk in depth about good sex. Generally really positive and enlightened supportive people. |

I've only been to one clinic but the first time I booked an appointment to see the doctor who asked me outright if I was a swinger, if I went dogging and much more. I submitted to every test offered. One fly in the ointment though: a girl in the waiting room not only lives up the road but was also in my daughter's class for 11 years! Must have surprised her as I will have been married 25 years next spring.
Second time the waiting room was full of 14 year old boys jyst after the free condoms!
Happily they've been discrete and helpful both times and I wouldn't hesitate to go back. |
