Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Angling to get into the Olympics is Angling.

Is it a sport?

Won't all the animal cruelty protesters kick up a fuss?

What will they catch?

I imagined more discussion about whether it's a sport. Silly me.

If it's rubber duckies then the animal rights protesters won't have anything to protest.

Man trying to outwit his quarry with stealth and guile, got to be more of a sport than watching England football surely. Then again I guess snail racing would cover that one as well.

It would be as boring to watch.

I won,t call it a grey area because I do think the fish feel at the least discomfort sadly perhaps even pain but if they are cold blooded then this might help them but its still a grey area on what people think, I use to fish and experienced all the things that give you a buzz about the sport that itself is quite powerful if you get (Hooked) pardon the pun.. on the sport in the 20 years or so I course fished 99.5% of my catch went back alive be it river or lake I also went sea fishing but thats a different story I swapped the sport for bird watching just over 30 years ago, I would Imagine people being quite Interested in olympic course fishing in a local river to add to the skill of the angler and where his peg lies or fishes from.

Coarse fishing is so dull! Spending hours sitting at a pond often in the passing rain is not for me lol

Sea/deep sea fishing is my thing or the occasional bit of fly!

yes lake fishing can be very dull my best times were around 5am to about 8am after 10am it was over but for variety river fishing was the one for movement but not really for relaxing with, and deep sea fishing its in a league of its own bigger fish yes but not all the time, I enjoyed catching plaice on the solway firth where salmon were, dug the bait be it sandworm or ragworm and plaice for breakfast next morning sometimes flounders from other areas.

Is fucking a sport? Will it apply to be in the Olympics? You and I could become Olympians (I can go for hours).

Yes it is a sport (officially).... reputedly the largest participation sport in the UK.

My brother in law is currently competing in the England team in the world lure fishing championships.

To those who think it is dull....then you are doing it wrong (rather like sex in that respect?)

Birmingham

A keen angler I know posted a thing on Facebook about Halal and how cruel it is. We should all sign a petition apparently. No mention of Kosha by the way. And no mention of catching fish via a hooked barb through their mouths, dragging them up to the surface, slowly suffocating them until they have been unhooked, weighed and they (the keen fisherman) have had their pics taken together. Made me quite irate!

Dull to watch. I know those who participate find it thrilling.

People hold opposing thoughts and actions all the time.

Netball is one of the biggest sports (in terms of capturing new players/ those who return to netball) and yet NO mention of this being an Olympic sport!!!!

Because it predominantly attracts women?!? Because it's not played in America/ China etc!?!?

But what makes one thing okay and the other not!?

Nothing if you believe fish feel the same as mammals. Everything if you don't.

Hmm! Isn't almost everything sentient? Vegetation, Badgers? Fish!?

If you drag a fish to the surface and it's suffocating, isn't it having a bad day? Just like the badger who is protecting it's young family but yet having to leave it's sett to hunt and then being shot (and not killed but left to die slowly) to the plants who rely on pollination...yet we are killing those insects and birds...okay...so not actual thoughts as in whoa is me probably...but still...extinction is actual!

If beach volleyball can be an Olympic sport, I can't see why fishing shouldn't be.

Because fishing isn't about skill or athleticism! Its about being in the right place (usually a lake stocked full of fish) with the right bait at the right time!

Hmm isnt the skill picking the right place and bait?

And last time I checked, they didn't stock the sea with fish...

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

It's more of a sport than horse dancing, waving a streamer or hanging off a bar for a bit.

(so is netball, for what it's worth)
