Americans stand up for their national anthem, do you actually stand up when you hear yours?

Not if you're the 1/4 back of the 49ers

Though it's drilled into them to stand for the anthem at school.

Main time we hear the national anthem is after middnight when Radio 4 closes and goes over to the BBC World service. We dont get out of bed to stand up. Though some times something might already be standing up.

I worked for a night in a Protestant social club in northern Ireland in the early 90s. End of the night the DJ played the national anthem and everyone in the place stood up

No, that's the pledge of allegiance. We don't listen to the national anthem at school.

My apologies

I'm always fascinated about the supposed secularism and separation of state and education in the US, but there's the powerful Christian lobby in the education sector

To answer the OP, I do know all the words and I do stand up when I'm at an evening and I hear it.

I think I'll get a flag tattoo some day.

Of course, even though not a royalist, I am a loyalist and patriot.

No.

In all honestly I don't feel massively associated with it these days and it's more about my lack of care for the royal family and the way the St George's cross has become a symbol of ignorance.

I agree with you about what the flag has become, St George's day is an excuse to get d*unk and start fights. National pride isn't about right wing leanings and shouldn't be dirty words

Since when did people need an excuse to get d*unk and start a fight ?

In all honesty I think we should reclaim the flag and stand up for our natinal pride and the wonderful diversity of cultures that we have, that strengthens our nation

I stand up for my national anthem (and hold the dragon on our shirt collar) but then I'm usually at the stadium when I hear it before a rugby game! I love my national anthem and the words.

The St. George's Cross a symbol of ignorance ???? So anybody who respects it or flies it must be some kind of nazi thug or white trash dimwit ?? I have never read such nonsense in my life... some of us are very proud and happy to be associated with it.

Yes, as are many. However it is dawbed on every right wing leaflet and used as the rallying cry for every post brexit hate mob

Yes. I was at the theatre on Saturday and they played it before the show and the whole audience stood it.

It felt good to do so.
