Fibre only broadband recommendations

Looking to get rid of virgin tv as overpriced and rubbish.

However broadband is very good.

Looking around most other providers do a phone and broadband only deal with the unnecessary line rental.

Anyone got any good feedback or recommendations

Looking at Vodafone fibre broadband?

I would seriously suggest you check out some of the sites that specialise in Broadband reviews, Vodafone seems to be really rubbish.

Other than Virgin and a few smaller isp's everybody else is just reselling you an Openreach managed line so the only difference is their quality of customer service.

Best cheap Openreach reseller is probably Plusnet

More expensive but with best quality engineering support is probably Zen.

Where possible they offer FTTP (Fibre To The Premises) which does not require the use of BT's copper local end so they may well do a broadband only service.

just have the broadband and landline?

i never took up their tv service, although was paying for that for a while because i didn't know you could cancel it and only have the broadband.

you also have to have their landline but i cancelled outgoing calls (coz my son was using it all the time and costing me a fortune), so i get the free landline calls at the weekend.

Over 99% of UK phone and broadband is over the Openreach network (including fibre to the cab (FTTC) and fibre to the premises (FTTP)), which means that, no matter who you go with, they (and ultimately you) will end up paying for line rental, this covers the maintenance, servicing and investment in the network.

There are now routers that have a sim in them, doing away the need for any landline connections at all, the main one I think being Vodaphone, but obviously this means lower speeds depending on your location.

You don't need a phone service to have BB, but its only one line anyway, and you will still need to pay line rental for it.

No-one can run any lines in the network (apart from Virgin in one or two areas where they have run their own cables), its all Openreach, so whether its FTTC or FTTP it all starts at the exchange, runs to a PCP (the green box or "cab") and then on to the end user, i.e. you.

When you change providers, the network connections are exactly the same, all that happens is your cct (circuit) is moved from your current CP's (Communication Provider) equipment, to your new CP's equipment, the point at which it leaves the exchange over the network stays the same.
