I used to be a fan, but the more austerity I see, the more it feels wrong that they live at the tax payers expense in luxury. Have far more than they need. I know they do lots of good but wouldn't we save more money by becoming a republic? |

Definitely bin them!!!
Theses affluent parasites / benefit scroungers have been around far too long.
They are an anachronism that constantly bleed us all - for nothing in return! |

Keep them, but turn them into the tourist attraction they claim to be....Windsorland,where you can pet a corgi, try your hand at being a butler, enjoy high tea with the Queen, have a grand tour of Buckingham Palace, shout the orders for the changing of the guard and meet the whole family. |

Holy shit no. They do more good than bad.
There's a reason this shitty little island is the 5th largest economy in the world.
Whether I agree with aristocracy or not. It's here.
It's been here 1000 years. It's the glue that holds the nation together imo |

Austerity!
Yeah, we should get rid of over-large, part-foreign families living in an over-large houses in fucking central London? Being paid by the State? Disgustin'!
Hmmm.
Hang on a mo'... |

No, no it isn't.
The French manage perfectly well without a royal family. People still queue to see Versailles. In fact probably more people go there because there's no royals clogging the place up.
Oh, and the UK is the 5th largest economy in the world... so what? The US, China and Germany are all republics... |

That is a brilliant idea.
On a serious note, it's not the state money that bugs me. It's pennies really compared to rest of government spending.
It's more the fact it's such an outdated institution - I sometimes think that other countries don't take us seriously due to having a monarchy, regardless of their lack of true power. |

The royals cost far far less than the useless and pointless work shy wankers that the towns of this country are full of, hanging around the job centres with their can of Stella in hand, waiting for their hand out to go and buy their fags...
The royal family are an institution that is loved the world over.. That's pretty evident whenever you go into the tourist areas of the big smoke.
Love em or loathe them, they are part of what makes this little isle Great.

Technically they don't live at the tax payers expense.
Their stipend comes from a series of trusts set up by their predesessors.
There is a surplus of funding which goes back into the treasury.
Keep them.
I like living in a country that has a monarchy. |

Think we should be allowed to vote yes or no as we are supposed to live in a democracy.
At the moment we are not given any say which seems a bit dictatorship. |

"The Fact is The Queen and Royals bring Millions or maybe billions of pounds to the British Economy. In Tourism and trade."
Oh really?
The biggest myth about the Queen? Her contribution to the British economy...
Supporters of the monarchy and its value to the UK often use the example of tourism as an area where the Royals haul in money. Brand Finance’s calculations show that tourism revenue connected to the monarchy and its heritage has been valued at £535 million for 2015.
Campaign group Republic, which calls for the abolition of the monarchy, claims that it’s own research shows the monarchy costs the UK £334 million a year, with each “working royal” costing the taxpayer £18.5 million a piece.
There isn’t any evidence to suggest there is any economic benefit to the royal family.
Any benefit mentioned is from assets that belong to the nation - like tourist attractions - which would still belong to the nation if the monarchy was abolished. |

They don't ever have to wait on a waiting list for the NHS though ? Cook for themselves. Worry about where their next penny comes from ? I could work tirelessly with all that they have at my disposal. |

They should not get a penny from us . Just think of all the land and property plus investments they own. Purely through birthright. If they can't turn a profit from all that to maintain the many royal estates palaces etc.. they should then hand them back to the state to manage. |

That the royal family are better than non-royal people is ss a terrible belief for people to have. People shouldn't live in a system that instigates inferiority amongst its citizens. It's just not healthy. |

Keep them. Have no clue about all the financial in's and out's of the situation but I like that we have a monarchy. It gives us an identity. The Canadians are lapping up wills and Kate right now as they are on their tour.
I like how they have become more accessible of late and that is thanks to harry and William. |

On what grounds? This isn't the Middle Ages where some divinely-appointed nonce in a funny hat can order the Lord High Executioner to separate my head from my body.
That is progress |

I think we should definitely keep them. In one way you are right they take a lot of taxpayers money but on the other hand they do generate a lot of money too through tourism to the uk. When you break it down the costs probably cancel each other out, or I'd even wager that they generate more money through tourism to the UK than they take in taxpayer handouts. Plus they are good will embassador's and generally well liked and respected all over the world. They do a lot of good in the world and generate a lot of money for charities. |

The Tower of London still does? The Crown Jewels would still be there as they belong to the state.
Buckingham Palace would generate more income as be open all year round to visitors. Same with Balmoral and Sandringham I'm guessing. |
