Today I suddenly wondered, for no reason whatsoever...
Did the Old Bailey ever just get called the Bailey? Or even the New Bailey?
Does anyone know & do you have any other random questions to share with the group?

Why do birds suddenly appear?
Why can't you sneeze with your eyes open?
Why did the chicken cross the road?

"Why are Northampton and Southampton so far apart?
What about Easthampton and Westhampton?"
I've been to Wolverhampton on more than one occasion and can't claim to ever have seen a single wolf!

Sounds like a plan, I don't mind doing the washing up bit, but as a single guy I just let them dry of their own accord and put them away when they are

"Why does Manchester think it's the North West?
Wasn't our idea"
Good point!
Rephrase question:
Why do people in the South East think that Manchester is in the North West? Look at a map ffs! |

"When I buy a PAIR of jeans
Why do I only get 1?"
Because trousers were originally two separate legs, laced together. A " trouser" was one leg. So you bought a pair of legs ; pair of trousers. The word became plural for all trousers / jeans / leggings ( in English )
In other languages, " trousers" are single ; eg French ; "un pantalon" not " les pantalons" |

"I always thought that Manchester was in the North west to i never was any good at geography though "
But we're in the North East, to get to Manchester we have to go south west of here.
If we go west (west of north east is north west) we end up nowhere near Manchester, we're in Carlisle. |

"North West England" is the official designation of the region of England which consists of Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside. |

Much of which is in the midlands then if you look at a map!
Oh well, there's me looking for logic in Londoncentric officialdom! |
