Ok so earlier today I made a very irrational spur of the moment decision to give up smoking. I have been smoking for nearly 40 years!
So far yes I want a cigarette but no proper cravings.... Yet.
I'm guessing I'm in for a bit of a tough time so any hints would be very welcome. |

It tales 3 days for the cold turkey, stick with it.
Drink loads of orange juice.
Find something else to put in your mouth, ideally a water bottle. Not sweets.
You will feel shit before you feel better but it will be soooo worth it.
This is how I did it nearly 20 years ago |

I smoked 15 a day for 10 years then one day randomly quit for good without any e-cigs and patches etc. If you really want to quit then you'll do it. I found myself eating more and started to work out.
You feel a lot better for it, I ain't just saying that. It's well worth it. Good luck |

They say it takes 3 days but mentally I think it takes a lot longer. How many people quit for weeks, months or even years then start smoking again when d*unk one time hanging around smokers? It happens a lot from my experience. |

You're right, the habit itself is much harder to quit. |

I rarely, rarely smoke these days, as I've moved to that vapenation thing everyone's been going on about. My difficulty though was never so much the nicotine, it was the psychological addiction of the action of smoking. In essence, blowing the smoke out.
I feel a great deal healthier for my change though. My only issue I've found with it though is that none of the flavours that I tend to go for are available in zero nicotine, so I jump between the very low levels of it dependant upon what my flavour of the month is, so to speak. |

So far the 2 biggest moments were when I got in the car to go and pick up my son from his work and again now waiting for him which might be 5 minutes or could be an hour!
Most people I know who have given up are now using vapours but I'd rather not do that if I can help it. |

Or sugar free mints. They keep the mouth busy and I find it keeps my vape out of my mouth if I've been particularly heavy on it. |

I like the idea of a water bottle. Will get one first thing in the morning. |

I smoked for 27 years and given up nearly 10 years.
I went cold turkey, its easier to change all your habits of when you'd smoke. I used to light up in the car so i changed this to chewing gum, washed out the ashtray and filled it with potpourri
Good luck and keep going |

Quit 4 months ago by switching to vaping, which I know still has nicotine levels so is not quite the same as giving up completely BUT I can honestly say in that time I've not once had any cravings for the real thing, and I'd usually have been climbing the walls with them after a couple of days cold turkey.
Down to 0.6 or 1.2 level nicotine now - need to work on dropping it down further next!!
