Although the steps are similar the motivations and intentions underpinning both are different. Therefore I'd expect different behaviour from those engaging in each with a different attitude

OP, I assume you're talking about 2 singles hung singles hooking up? So - swinging or dating? Fuck knows. There are a lot of similarities but that's like saying we share 90% of our DNA with a slug or something.

If I was single and was both swinging and dating - in one situation I'd talk about my love of Star Trek and the other I wouldn't.

Hi Op. Interesting debate. As a couple we don't see swinging and dating as the same thing. Swinging for us is pretty much nsa sex between strangers. With singles, I guess it could turn into dating, which I would see as a more committed relationship. Just my opinion!

Sorry what's 'shoshall'? I'm not taking the piss, that's the only bit I couldn't follow.

No I don't agree with 90%. More like 30%. I've never pretended to be interested in someone's pets to swing with them. I'd never meet their family. I wouldn't ask someone if they visit the GUM clinic on a date... to name a few differences

I think it's fair to say that everyone has their own take on it OP.

For example some swingers dont do a social. I think the bottom line is expectation. With dating their is an expectation (or hope) that a relationship will develop, if you click. With swinging that expectation is usually "parked".

So the mindset for each "similar" circumstance is completely different from the start. Thus although the activities may appear similar their motivations are different.

So... (getting there) expectations and motivations are different and as the state of mind is initially the most important aspect of any meeting and will dictate how it plays through, swinging and dating are not the same... from the outset to the end... well that's my take anyway.

My take on it would be as follows:

Swinging is meeting people off here, having a laugh and sex, even becoming friends.

Dating is the same but off PoF.

Neither are a relationship nor need to lead to one.

Yes that's true. Actually that's a big part of what we like about swinging. When you are married, you don't get the nervous excitement feeling of dating. Swinging can feel like that again, which is fun, and you do it together.

You are looking at swinging from the perspective of a single man on a website.

Arguably meeting people of the opposite sex off the internet for sex is not what swinging is about

No just trying to make a point that swinging and dateing are VREEY similar. So its hard to say its not a dateing sate up to a point.

You are looking at swinging from the perspective of a single man on a website.

Arguably meeting people of the opposite sex off the internet for sex is not what swinging is about "

In sence ya. wot I had wos the rong vue of swinging. But if your new to it Thar is not ezakley a gide dook about swinging.

You could actually say that these are people matching sites.

What those people get up to when they meet can be anything from steam train watching to playing in a dungeon ( though those two activities are not necessarily mutually exclusive)

Read his profile. He has stated that he is Dyslexic, not foreign or illiterate

And no, it is not pretty easy to follow what he writes. It takes me time to figure out, using context, what he could possibly mean "

Then take the time or ignore the thread. It's not difficult to do either

Why does anyone need to run the guy down by commenting on his spelling?

Swinging....more of an expectation of sex. If you are single then On rare occasions may lead to some kind of relationship. (Certainly not if you are a couple)

Dating....expectations of relationship....maybe leading to a sexual relationship. You wouldn't expect to find couples on a dating site?

I understand where you are coming from, but personally I disagree on the grounds the OP doesn't need to justify himself to anyone further.

Put it this way, one of the reasons I much prefer the politics forum over the lounge is that there's far too much anti-islam bullshit that goes on here for my liking. There used to be a lovely forumite who was a Muslim and I personally noticed a massive decrease in the number of anti-muslim bullshit on the forums when she was around. Unfortunately, she left after being outed by a neighbour.

What I'm saying is that I think the OP will have a positive effect, just by being a regular poster, rather than needing to frequently explain himself.

im not saying he should justify himself ive already said he shouldnt have to repeat himself but with all the threads about spelling and people using dyslexia as an excuse i just thought he would be an ideal person to explain it. Not to do with the op himself but dyslexia in general. It was just a suggestion to the op

I partly agree with your point but define regular poster? Sorry if I'm taking OPs thread of topic but I don't have the time or inclination to post about various subjects whilst also mentioning I have Asperger's, I'd feel like I was constantly repeating myself - which is an autistic trait funnily enough lol.

I'd rather get it over and done with in one big session.

"Obviously from the other thread in one ear and out the other

No just trying to make a point that swinging and dateing are VREEY similar. So its hard to say its not a dateing sate up to a point."

It's very very easy to say it's not dating. There's no blurred lines.

No I don't feel swinging and dating are more or less the same. However I think there can be overlaps. What you have described, OP, is serious relationship dating versus casual NSA dating. And although NSA dating can take place within swinging, and can be found via a swinging site, I would not regard NSA dating as swinging in itself.

I regard swinging as an umbrella term for an assortment of more unconventional types of sex providing an outlet for more sexually liberated people. It tends to be associated with sex involving more than two people, e.g. partner swaps, threesomes, sex parties. Dating by definition can only involve 2 people.

This is bralleint.....and also very true. Seen it before.

But the OP actually asked about the difference between swinging and dating. 90% of the replies on here seem to be about dyslexia..... btw. I also have sexdaily!
