Why not..

The same reasons I would comment on another photographers images on Flickr or alike, to let them know I appreciate the image..

It's kinda feedback that they are doing something people like.

Two main reasons,

1 i like the picture for what it is, striking image or sexy subject

2 because the image has caught my eye and it's a 'hello nice picture, fancy a chat'

I fab loads of photos. I like looking at profiles and associated photos and fabbing is a great way to show appreciation, there are some that I would like to be able to comment on, in much the same way as Facebook. Maybe the site owners could look into this?
