"They've only just had a McDonald's built in Venice so suspect swingers clubs might be a few years away yet "
Wasn't thinking specifically about Swingers clubs. Just somewhere fun and exciting. If any naughty fun between ourselves and others that happened to occur, well that would just be the icing on the cake |

"In Venice?
I can recommend a delightful palazzo with a sunken marble bath that my missus whisked me away to for a birthday a few years back..."
Sounds nice I don't actually have a clue where we are staying yet. I just know that it's in Venice |

I was working so can't specifically say I noticed nightclubs. There's loads of beautiful little bars and bistros though. Just spend the time walking round and taking in the sights. It's an incredibly pretty place. |

"Venice is more an open-air museum than working, living city.
Try somewhere on the mainland...?
Are there no bars or night clubs in Venice itself then?"
Yes there are.
There's a bar with hundreds of bras stapled to the ceiling, fucked if I can remember what it's called but a Friday night normally has boobs |

We're into art and history so we will definitely be enjoying the sights. But it is also our first child free weekend for about a year, so we'd like to try and have some 'us' fun if the opportunity is there |

Yes, in Venice. Down a back street about 5-10 mins walk from the Rialto. There's an 'irish' bar opposite it too from memory. Although I was pretty d*unk at the time.
Nah, tourist bar, seemingly they give (or did when I was there) free drinks to women removing bras |

I can't argue with the beauty of the place but the whole experience left me underwhelmed. |

How sad.
Venice is one of the wonders of the world. As I said, it's more like an open-air museum than a working city...
If you want to party go to Rome, Naples, Turin, Milan... |

I didn't go to party. I just isn't manage to enjoy Venice other than one or two parts.
I got completely lost in the more residential part of Venice and that was simply stunning. Water taxi to the airport was fun too I guess.
I'd disagree with it not being a working city. Ok, the square and surrounding area is essentially what you describe, but there are homes and offices in there, people trundling through the streets doing what they do. |

That's a crock of crap! Venice is a vibrant, bustling, working city. Walk a few streets away from the main tourist areas and it is a completely different atmosphere. There's a massive produce market. The locals are wonderfully open and friendly. The restaurants and bars the locals frequent are some of the best places we have ever eaten and spent time in.
We adore Venice. Obviously if you are only there for a weekend then you tend to cram as much of the tourist, historical places in as possible but please take some time to just wander the back passages and canal side walks. I assure you there are little gems to be found.
We will be back there this summer |
