I'm glad those people are being caught but I'm not comfortable with the people doing the vigilante stuff. I think it's just a matter of time before it turns out some of their own motives aren't so clean.
I'd prefer to see the police doing it. |

with the way the law is with those people, why not a vigilante group, we should get wife beaters, child killers & molestors weigh them down & drop them in our deepest loch Loch Morar, as they dont deserve to be given justice, my cousin was nearly raped by a guy, he was caught before he could do anything, his lawyer got him off, pity he cant walk now |

Really? So let's assume that I accuse you of raping me and a young person. You'd be happy to be dropped in a deep lake as you don't deserve to be offered justice of any sort?

It's a few years ago, but lets not forget the vigilantes that understood paediatrician to be the same as paedophile.

His solicitor didn't get him off a jury would give a not guilty verdict. They were given all the evidence re_iewed this and saw it wasn't proof of a crime. People unfortunately will say things sometimes like they have been raped without it being true. Although sometimes there is not enough proof of the crime committed. But who are we to judge without all the facts. |

no we didnt cripple him, came out of the pub after celebrating with his mates, got hit by a bus, both legs crushed,& the irony of this I as the one who gave him first aid till the medics arrived, I seemingly as the one who helped save his life, & I will always help people who require help, he deserved to be punished, but not that way. |

The biggest issue with this and also naming and shaming of said individuals, is that it drives them "underground" where even the police cannot monitor them.
Don't get me wrong, if anyone touched my kids I'd fucking kill em,but openly naming and shaming can have serious repercussions.
Plus.... There are also the innocent people.
I was once taken to court by a very bitter ex for subjecting my children to mental/emotional abuse.
He was bitter because I ended a toxic relationship and it got laughed out of court.
By your standards I'd be hung drawn and quartered by now. |

what a coincidence you and someone else just happened to be there when he was hit by a bus..
your good Samaritan act is a bit at odds with your initial post and your false concern about him not being to walk, very strange..

There are some very *disturbing* things about this phenomenon.
1/ we never see the actual message thread in full or in part, so we never know anything about that.
2/ we can assume that for there to be sufficient content to interest the police / cps, there would be some content regarding an illegal act, such as having sex with a minor, rather than a merely immporal act, such as lewd "seaside postcard" chat with a minor.
3/ since they are *not* bound by the same rules as law enforcement, they *can* engage in entrapment.
4/ I'm going to seriously question how for example a 40 year old male self styled paedo hunter, let's call him Derek, is going to convince another male, let's call him Joe, that Joe is actually talking to a 13 year old girl called Julie. No doubt photos of some young girl are used, so where are they obtained, and are they themselves legal?
5/ It's reasonably well known that paedophiles gravitate towards certain activities and professions either to get access to children, or as a cover for their activities, and it occurs to me that being a "paedo hunter" makes an excellent cover.
6/ to my limited knowledge, none of the men trapped to date have been paedophiles, they have all been ephebophiles
7/ god help a guy turning up to meet "Julie" at the appointed time and place, as I and every other male on here has done in swinging, to find out that some vigilate group just happens to be at the same venue waiting for "Joe" to turn up to meet "julie"... guy walks in looking around for someone like you do, "Derek" walks up to him and asks "Are you here to meet Julie mate?" Guy says "yes" and all hell breaks loose.
As others have so succinctly and eloquently said, there is no place for vigilantism alongside law and order, pick one. |

We have a justice system for a reason.... So all those in favour of vigilates answer 1 question how would you feel if someone made a false alogation against you and they took it upon themselves to turn you into a cripple? There is no place in civilised society for vigilate justice theyre thugs hiding behind an agenda and they and all who support them are a disgrace to society in my humble opinion

What's needed is tougher sentences, paedophiles convicted of rape should never be allowed out. It is absolutely impossible to rehabilitate them. They will always pose an ongoing risk of re-offending. Therefore the prison system should not be releasing them back into the public. Vigilantes are not the way to go though, too much chance of getting it wrong and it being corrupted by people's agendas. |

I saw the video of that guy who thought he was meeting a 14 year old. While I understand people's disgust about paedophilia I appreciate that the police are stretched very thinly.
I can't help thinking the vigilantes did trap that man but he wouldn't have been caught if he wasn't up to something.
However, the line of questioning was a bit much and I think they should have called the police before arranging to meet the guy.
Their harassment of the guy made me squirm! Presumed guilty by vigilantes. I found that very uncomfortable. |

It is potentially entrapment which is why the vigilante group captures result in so few convictions. I think the police and CPS are less tHan keen on them for that reason. I also think that thete have been police operations derailed by the paedophile hunters |

And these vigilantes and internet warriors fuck up the real police work; often their interference destroys carefully built up evidence gathering by police.
These idiots don't realize that the police have sophisticated real "Internet detectives" who are getting to the real heart of these paedophile rings.
Years of painstaking research and undercover activity can be destroyed by ignorant fuckwits.

I think it's somebody's own decision what they want to do within the law, if they want to spend they're time "setting up" and recording suspected criminals there perfectly entitled to do it.
If they manage to get convictions and I belive they've got quite a few then even better! |

And make it really hard for the CPS to prosecute a case due to the way in which the evidence is not only gathered but shared online pre-trial without a thought to the fallback that results to the innocent family (in some cases including children) and friends of the person publicly shamed in said sting operation? I'd much rather the evidence was collected lawfully, without ulterior motives and with the identities of innocent bystanders protected. There are groups who work with the police to achieve that. They're the ones who don't crow about it all over social media until after the case has been brought to court. |

Yeah, I'm uncomfortable with this kind of thing. The guys you see in these things tend not to come across as world-class scientists and lawyers. There's a lot of aggressive Sun-style hyperbole and posturing.
I also find the entrapment angle a bit suspect. Many years ago, I experienced a seemingly normal chat on a site quite like this one go west when small details were gradually dropped into the conversation to hint at an underage user (I'm 19. Well, 18. Alright 16. Here's my photo - school uniform, obviously). I twigged quite quickly that something wasn't right and I'm convinced to this day that it was actually a guy, not an underage girl. |

Don't be so fucking stupid;
The RSPCA is a properly licensed and trained organization;
Their officers have training in how to carry out investigations according to the law ; and work closely with the police under proper procedures and under the law .
And they don't fuck about setting up " stings "; they work on evidence received , within the law. |

I read in the Mirror this week , that a vigilante type group took offence to messages that a bloke sent to a woman friend. They took him from the street, kept him in a cupboard, stuck things up his arse, beat him and locked him in a tiny cupboard naked.
The 'wronged' women filmed it.
They believed they were justified.
It won't be long before self styled heroes do something really damaging to innocent people. |
