Can get some good hard drives at the moment, a 500gb for around 30 to quid
I've filled up my 120gb drive ages ago, makes doing a defrag take forever, also
need a new one for my Linux system. |

you should be careful buying any external hard drives or sd cards, mp3 players etc. on ebay if it's coming from china... they have a huge industry over there using memory which has failed quality control, screwing around with it so it looks like it has a far higher capacity than it really does and then selling it on ebay.... I bought an sd card which was supposed to be 16Gb, turned out it was actually 4 but showed as 16 in windows (after I actually got it to work). Got my money back but did a lot of research to see if I could repair it etc. and found that there is a hell of a lot of this happening on ebay.... |

My first computer had an 80MB hard drive that you had to "park" before you shut down the computer
It also had a 5 1/4" floppy drive as well as the more common 3½" floppy drive.
My PCs now don't even have a floppy drive - and my netbook doesn't even have a CD / DVD drive! |

I remember those 5 1/4 inch floppy's, so easy to damage them, got loads of old stuff, cd roms, 56k modem, floppys even an Amiga 1200 in my cupboard, you can probably tell i hate throwing stuff away.

My very 1st PC was an Amstrad DD something or other. It had 2 x 5 1/4" floppy drives, about 750k of RAM and a 20MEG hard drive, yes that was 20MEG not 20GIG and before you switched it off or moved it you had to use a command called 'Shipdisk.com' from DOS which parked the head over an unused sector on the hard drive to avoid damage when being moved.
I had to replace the Hard drive at one point and the biggest I could get was still 20MEG and it cost me over 150quid
That was only about 14-15 years ago - how times have changed |
