Every day of the week i have a nurse come in for half an hour to my mum,for which i pay for,the rest of the time i care for her myself.Of late ive notice things going missing,Monday a packet a ciggarettes went and also a ten pound note which was on my table.I had gone shopping and on return found these items missing,and nobody else was in the house at the time,except my mum and the nurse.The nurse said to mum i will wheel you into the bathroom to wash you,and i will go and write my report while you wash yourself,so that leaves her alone in the living room where the items went missing,i know these are only small items but i fear that if she is doing this here then what about the other old people she visits.I have now got my nephew to set up a camera spy thing which will show movement in the living room,i have to have proof before i carry on with any complaint i make,am i doing the right or wrong thing,or what else can i do. |

Your doing the right thing. The health and welfare for your mum is the most important thing and I would do the same thing for my parents if I sensed a care worker/nurse was abusing their profession for any kind of monetary gain. |

If you can get evidence and therefore be certain get the book thrown at them for sure!! |

Set a trap!! Get a camera rigged up. Catch them in the act! Then take the company to court.
Alternatively something of less action.
Good luck with it though. Horrible feeling to have, esp with a vulnerable person. X |

Saw something like this the other day on a TV programme presented by Dominic Littlewood where the carer, along with her daughter, were stealing cash from the elderly gentleman they were supposed to be caring for. He had trust in them and they did this to him, was just vile.
Anyway, the gentleman's family set up a camera disguised as a clock which caught them in the act. They also kept a diary and wrote down what had gone missing and on what date.
Once the evidence was built up, the family then went to the police and the evidence against the pair was so overwhelming they couldn't deny it.
It's up to you how you take this forward OP, but whatever course of action you take, I certainly hope that the thefts stop. |

"I would look at all people who have the opportunity, narrow it down and if she is the one you have the most concern about, I would report in confidence."
report regaurdless this is a violation of your trust and confidence in a service provider get the police involved and take them to task good luck  |

I would wait until you have seen any video evidence and make sure the date and time counters are set on the camera.
Nothing worse than acusing the wrong person as there is no going back from there.

Ive got to have proof first,before i carry on,ive just read the rules on the contract and it says they not meant to bring any type of bag into anyones property,but she does. |

If you have concerns then a "nanny cam" is a good way to confirm them.
However a small word of notice, for it to be admissable in court a small notice somewhere should be placed explaining cctv is in use otherwise it leaves it open for entrapment.
The cool thing is, the notice doesnt have to be a set size, or written in english (it does need to be a recognized language)
So small bit of korean or even klingon (yes it is a recognized language) and your sorted. |

.Dont think.its a ccv just some kind of gadget my nephew has so hes setting it up. |

Yes you are doing the right thing. She is in a position of trust. My Nan got ripped off with 8k from a hairdresser who befriended her. That was bad enough but nursing staff that abuse this trust should be locked up! It angers me as there are so many vulnerable people open to abuse. |

Doing the camera is the right approach. Then you will know 100%.
I would be cautius about reporting somebody just on suspicion. If you see it on the camera you can do it with a clear conscience, and someone breaking a critical trust has been correctly brought to task. |

You know I wonder if it might be an idea to tell carers that you have cctv set up when they start working for us - I wonder if that would prevent any abuse or wrong doing in the first place?

To be fair I'm sure I have been filmed before in my work place and I have no objection to it. I haven't been told but I know I do my job properly so I'm not worried |

Mearly pointing out that asking a bunch of swingers she should do.

If someone where stealing from me I would call the police.
Simple.
If not got any proof get proof and then call police.

I think you're doing the right thing OP, get some evidence then confront. It is a huge abuse of trust of vulnerable people IF they are responsible for the missing items. |

It might be a good idea to contact the police to ask them for some advice on how to proceed, they may even install a camera for you.
Some years ago i was burgled and the police installed hidden cameras because they thought the person/s responsible might come back for what they didn't take first time around. |

You need to report your concerns to the care agency, they are obligated to look into the matter. They may have other complaints and will need to be informed. |

You should get 100% proof before reporting cctv is a good thing and any honest person wouldn't mind being filmed. But I'm sure I read somewhere you have to warn someone they are being filmed or least have their consent although not sure. |

I would find out for sure before you report her.....if she is innocent and thats on her record you would probably never forgive yourself....even if it doesn't go on her record she will always have the stigma there by her boss x |

..I would never report her without proof,and if i dont catch her then i shall imform the appropiate people that i no longer require their services.
