A few small facts about my hometown.
We are a World Heritage Site with more museums, galleries and Grade II* Listed Buildings (including us!) than anywhere in the UK outside London, two Cathedrals, two Premiership football teams, a filming hot-spot with over 140 films shot here in 2012 and we hold the Guinness Book of Records title for being the Capital of Pop! |

The following was in the local rag but I think Reading is a wonderful place.
For starters, I live nearby, come visit x
----
Reading awarded crap-ital city status
QUEEN Victoria is famously turning her back on Reading in a statue outside the Town Hall, and Jerome K Jerome described the place as a ‘carbuncle on the River Thames'.
But surely most of its inhabitants would agree that Reading isn't that bad? Well, apparently not.
Scores of Reading dwellers have voted the town one of the worst in the country following a six-month poll in which people nominated their hellish hometowns.
The verdict is revealed in a book published today, called Crap Towns, which features 50 towns loathed by their inhabitants.
In the book, disgruntled Readingensians told former Idler magazine writers Sam Jordison and Dan Kieran that the town was expensive and soulless, with one scribe suggesting it "smelt of wee".
And Mr Jordison said he had no hesitation in featuring the wannabe city in the run-down of the country's most terrible hives.
He said: "Reading is a prosperous Thames Valley town, a stone's throw from London.
"It's home to two internationally renowned music festivals — and it's more bland than Bran Flakes."
But there is some good news: Reading didn't scoop the coveted prize for most pitiful town, only coming in at number 36 on the list - that prize went to Hull.
Also featured in the book are Basildon, Yeovil, and Grimsby. One critic also reckoned nearby Bracknell was designed to "inflict maximum cruelty on visitors and residents".
But the judges freely admit there are worse places to live than Reading.
Mr Jordison added: "Reading is a fairly nice place to walk around, if rather bland. But it's not just about how a place looks, it's how it feels. People often celebrate their town's crapness and Reading is a great example of that - it unites people!"
‘Crap Towns: The 50 Worst Places to Live in the UK' is published by Boxtree and goes on sale today priced £8.
But Reading's dignitaries are less than impressed. Mayor Councillor Jeanette Skeats - from Hull - defended both as a place to live. And she added the tongue-in-cheek review of Britain's towns and cities is potentially damaging.
The town's borough council is also unhappy and thinks the survey is based on flimsy and ill-researched facts.
Cllr Jon Hartley, the borough council's cultural head, leapt to the town's defence, saying he wouldn't live anywhere else.
He said: "People who live here know the changes that have taken place and know the great things that have always been here.
"I would imagine this has been compiled using research from the town's reputation dating back 10 or even 20 years."

References to robin hood being from Loxley only start to appear in the late 16th century. The earliest known references date from around 1260 in Berkshire so there is a possibility he was actually a southerner lol |

"A bifew small facts about my hometown.
We are a World Heritage Site with more museums, galleries and Grade II* Listed Buildings (including us!) than anywhere in the UK outside London, two Cathedrals, two Premiership football teams, a filming hot-spot with over 140 films shot here in 2012 and we hold the Guinness Book of Records title for being the Capital of Pop!"
Was in West Derby very recently and saw gangs on motorcrossers riding around the streets wearing balaclavas... then someone got stabbed by one.... that's another fact |

I'll give you most of those, but Robin Hood was actually from Loxley in Sheffield
One or two might dispute this fact, but we are sticking to it
References to robin hood being from Loxley only start to appear in the late 16th century. The earliest known references date from around 1260 in Berkshire so there is a possibility he was actually a southerner lol"

I come from a place surrounded by largest stretch of utter desolation in the western hemisphere and it only exists for one week of the year.
Suppose: a man could pass through Paradise in a dream, and have a flower presented to him as a pledge that his soul had really been there...
And if, when he woke, he found petals in his hand, what then?
.
Black Rock City is my hometown.
.
Trust me, you ain't seen NOWhere like it. I spent a decade trying to encapsulate it... going round in my head. Best I could come up with was:
It's like Mad Max meets Alice in Wonderland.
But a woman I met out there said this:
"We come to some random patch of desert and, stripped to the bone, we live like rock stars."
She had such a way with words.
