Just this week PS3 was hacked so if a huge company like Sony can get hacked into what about Faceshit!!!

Can you set facebook friends into diff groups? For example friends, family, work colleagues etc?
I dont mind work people being able to see other work people, but I dont want them to be able to see family etc |

No but some ppl have swinging/vanilla accounts.i tell anyone i have made friends with via swinging whom i add that my mum is on,and friends children,if they can't handle that, then i don't add them. It's a good way of seeing who actually has a hinterland lol.
i had a bad experience when another sub started posting about doing Sir's ironing naked for him .Wrong time and place as far as i was concerned, and if people cant manage that on facebook, then i doubt they can in RL either. |

and using that premise so could hanging around a swinging website putting stuff on a profile....
you only let people know as little or as much as you want them to.... the key word there being YOU.....
use the same username of various different sites and they could link them all together....
click the button to take it off searches.. and people will have a harder time finding you....
you make it as easy or as hard for people to search... again key word YOU.... |

well i think a swinging site is a lot different to faceshit
for one thing i havent seen anyone yet walk around a supermarket updating thier fab swingers profile telling people they are buying frozen peas in section 10 of sainsburys but i see tons of people updating their fb as they go along the day
two totally different things in my opinion
i notice that when a non facebook person basically says what fb is..a pile of utter shit if you ask me then they try to justify it someway or another
its just my opinion but like i said be careful out there you never know who is watching your shit!!

yes and no... now on facebook you can set it to:
just friends,
friends and their immediate friends, friends and networks you are in,
friends , friends of friends, and networks...
or everyone...
so again you can customise ya settings..... |

well if you want to be righteous any swinging site that asks you for a subscription to pay is going to have some sort of details on you.... name, address, credit card details
so it is exactly the same thing that has happened on the playstation network.....
as i said... you can put on as little or as much info as you want on facebook, and i am not really a facebook fan myself....
no amount of security is going to be 100% proof... if it was we wouldn't be having this conversation... all you can do is manage that risk... |

Some people are addicted to it others are not, others simply use it as a tool for keeping in touch. You either love it or hate it, but I will say _iteskin does have a point last year all military persons who had facebook were told to delete it as it was a way of Al Qaeda finding information about your family. We wasn't sure if it was true most left their profiles active, I deleted mine at the time |

Very easy for those scum to pick that up. As I said on another thread a few days ago about facebook a friend as created a facebook profile for their child that's 8 |

hotels dont know my whereabouts all day every day
dont catch trains!
car dealerships dont know what day or time i will be leaving my house to go party at josephines house and while i am there i will keep you updated as to what i am doing and the time i am leaving
catch my drift??
i am not talking about credit card fraud that happens by going to your corner shop these days
i am talking about people knowing every nook and cranny about what where how long etc you are doing with your life
the thing is you would think no one would give a fuck about what your doing as no one is that important but us human beings are just nosey by nature and the worst offenders lol are faceshit users
the reason i know this??
i just sacked someone for repeatedly using it in my office..silly twat thought no one would know..but the computer says a lot when i check logs
dont ever use a public/office pc for your fb account u would be suprised what can be seen when you think you have logged off!!

I opened a facebook account about 3 years ago at the behest of a friend. They were our bestest long range friends, we used to meet up often for soft swing.
He was sure his wife was at it behind his back, all the people on her facebook were blokes ( not surprised with the size of her boobs!)
Long story short, no she wasn't and end of a good friendship between the 4 of us. Ever since I get friend requests every couple of days. I know this because I get email reminders, even though I haven't used facebook in over a year! |

facebook is what you make of it, same with here. You dont have to add people you dont want too, no one forces you to upload pictures or video's.
If you do have a friend who updates every 3 mins you can select to remove their posts from the news feed. |

Exactly what i was going to say! Adding that since friends are people you choose to get on with,it is unlikely that someone is going to be a constant updater if you are not(birds of a feather and all that).
Every internet site, swinging, social network, bdsm, whatever, only gets the information you choose to give it.If you don't like a certain site, then you log off. What confuses me is why people get so upset about how others choose to use the interweb.
See the word that keeps coming up there? |

In all fairness there are certain privacy settings.
On the flip side though, it's alarming what people post. One girl I know updated ALL through her labour. What happened to special moments like that being private and memorable? Stupid cow. |

Facebook user myself too, you can choose privacy options and can choose to exclude different ppl to certain photos etc. I use it a lot to set up events and social things etc as run a football team so easy way to get details across and keep all events private so no one else can see it.
Also keeps me in touch with a lot of good friends that now live in other countries etc that I know I wouldnt if it wasnt for facebook.
Its as good as you want it to be
And one final note, how come those that hate and never use it seem to know so much about it and what goes on! |

My sister "happened" to look up her son's father on Facebook . He'd made it quite clear he wanted nothing to do with her and her son, and she was ok with that. He'd never given her a penny towards her son who is now three.
Well, in the interim he's now married, and posted it on Facebook, along with a comment that Auto Trader is pants as he was having difficulty finding a quality car for his wife.
My sister has suddenly decided she wants him to pay towards their son, has got the CSA involved, paternity tests are under way the lot.
Now if only he'd kept his business to himself...! |

The object if an unfair dismissal claim is often NOT to win the claim - that's just an unexpected bonus if you do. Then there's the ongoing problem of actually getting any winnings out of the former employer.
With the help that's available from any number of organisations up and down the country it's really quite easy to keep an employer tied up in expensively time-consuming knots for weeks and months, all the while having a really good laugh - not least because your ex-employer knows exactly what you're doing and why.
lol!

Yes you can group people & to some extent restrict - you can restrict a group from posting to your wall & also if you play any games etc who sees those posts - while I was Ill last year I grouped my friend & set certain privacy settings etc for work, family, mum etc I also used the groups to decide who can see which photos - I don't allow anyone except close family view photos of the kids |

I really don't know why I bother with this site! Here we are on a site that is uber politically correct and non judgemental. Where has all that gone now?
The OP must be very insecure if he feels the need to use childish names to try and make his point! The site has a name and no amount of changing it will make one bit of difference. Millions of people around the world will continue to use it as THEY want.
I use Facebook almost every day for contact with family abroad and down in Cornwall. I use it to chat to some of my customers and I use it to arrange business meeting with people whose services I use.
Just a thought to the OP... You are saying about people knowing where others are? The technology is in place and can be (is?) used to track you with your mobile! You are tracked with CCTV. You are tracked with Debit/Credit cards.
By all means express a dislike of the site, but don't try to make yourself seem bigger by demeaning others who want or love to use it! |

my take on the OP was not about facebooks privacy or other methods of being tracked etc but rather that some folk use it to notify the world of almost EVERYTHING that happens in their daily life.......
im on it myself to keep in touch with some family and friends and it works for me. but one of my relatives feels the need to post things like......
- my new puppy just done a poo
- making a pot of soup this weekend
- need to get my feet done
- just had a lovely dinner at the in-laws
- my baby just burped...OMG....OMG
- out doing a food shop
as many have said easy to ignore but perhaps people who need to update with trivial matters on a hourly basis are similar in a way to a look at me thread on here.....ha ha
live and let live i suppose |

really??
My credit of debit cards dont announce when i am out of the house unless i use them and unless you work for visa etc how would you know??
Since you go into freedom of speech diatribe well that means i can call it whatever i like doesnt it??
You may use faceshit as a tool and responsibly but i am talking about people who DONT!!
then again why should i care if peoples houses get trashed or burgled simply by announcing it on faceshit??
Notice one of the reasons i posted this was because i had to sack someone for using it in MY office and he wasnt using it for anything to do with work whatsoever.
I havent attacked anyone in this post i have attacked facebook and its wrong use last time i checked it wasnt a person it was just faceshit
simples

as much as it pains me i have to agree that some people can use facebook way too much!!! my dads partenr will 'check in' wherever she is. i can track her journey down to london on faceook
if people are happy to do that then let them, i dont get the need to get sooooo worked up about it really, you dont like facebook - dont use it, its about as simple as it gets really
i agree with the poster that calling it faceshit all the time is childish - everytime i read it reading through this thread i just thought 'fucking grow up man!!!' but then i followed my own advice and got over it
we are not allowed to use facebook at work purely because it is a vehicle for all sorts of viruses (thats the corporate line anyway lol)
i cant be arsed telling people wat i am doing all the time - at the moment i am getting a running commentary of the wedding - i know whats happening on that, i'm watching it ffs!!!! lol |

thing is i understand peoples concern about because some crimes have been related to people posting pictures on facebook.
1 year ago someone posted pictures of their car.
of course on facebook it had the persons location.
and thieves used google streetview to narrow down the number of similar cars in that area until they came across one on someones drive.
and it was the same one on this persons facebook and it was stolen.
if thieves want something bad enough they will take time in getting it and search blogging and social sites to target peoples property.
people posting they are going on holiday have come home to find the place ransacked.
it does happen.

I use facebook to keep in touch with friends but am careful about what I post. If I don't want the world to know I don't post - I certainly wouldn't ever post that I was away from home (if I mention a holiday it's when I've got back, not when the house is empty). I'm careful about who can see my profile and posts. Some people seem to constantly tell the world that they're not at home - madness!

fb is just a social networking site 2 keep in contact with your friends...keeping in touch with friends of the past and staying in contact.
Its how people choose 2 use it that is the problem! surely its meant for a bit of banter, tongue in cheek etc.. its when u get the 'fuck my life im feeling so sorry for myself status's that i choose 2 'hide' the sad bastards! |

"i really dont get it???
why do people put all their biz on there for every person, burglar, unsavoury type person to see EXACTLY what they are getting up to like where they go on hols, when they are out etc etc
You wouldnt tell joe blogs in the street your biz or show them pics of your kids now would you??
i really dont get it..maybe i,m getting old lol "
I have facebook... but its locked out to anyone but those I add myself... No one can see anything unless I add them.
I use it for my family that is spread about the world.. To keep them updated on things like the kids at school and stuff like that.
I also then get to see photos of them..
I have 23 friends on there.. 17 are family, the rest are very dear friends.
