Pound land is a rip off though ;

Although there is a lot of stuff that is a pound ( and is much cheaper than normal) they sell loads of stuff for a pound, that you can buy anywhere else for 20 or 50p.

That's where they make their money.

True! A lot of substandard stuff. Stuff made in special - smaller.- sizes, or lower specs. Stuff near the end of its use by date etc. I hear batteries are really poor.

I'd love a diamond ring or necklace from there but it probably wouldn't be set in platinum, like the ones I've got my eyes on down the road.

Home bargains have a range of Durex at the moment - bought a pack this week because my last batch were outdated. Got 12 tingly ones for 2.99 (and I'll probably still have 12 when those expire as well - lol).

They are advertising 18 'thin feel' for 3.99 (seemed good value) but didnt have any in stock.

Know what you mean about the cheapy shops tho - usually get sidetracked into buying a few extra bits.

Beleive some products are specifically packaged to make you think your getting a £1 bargain but you're getting less by kilo if you bought them from Tesco etc.

"It is like Ikea, do not go there without a list!"

IKEA, go once a year, start with an empty trolley wonder round for 1 to 2 hours then hand over £3/400 because I've somehow got a full trolley. But then have the best and remarkably cheapest hotdogs I've ever tasted, must confess to once having six! Then six months later off loading the full trolley stuff at the recycling centre, maybe those hotdogs aren't the cheapest after all!

These pound shops are on to a great thing here aren't they? You go in see a brand bleach or whatever and thing 'bargain!' Walk into wilkos and its 10p cheaper! Same with the 6 pack of crisps, go in lidl and they are 89p!

Granted we got some essential household stuff that you just couldn't get anywhere else on our budget but still!!

There were several arrests after a raid at a warehouse close to where we live last week, under suspicion of modern day slavery. Workers were being housed in the warehouse, and given food but it was unclear whether they were actually being paid a wage.

Working tax credits are paid to people on a lower wage, and if that means I have to pay someone who is willing to WORK for their money, then so be it, but to scrounge off the social and slob around all day expecting hand outs, well that's another matter entirely.

If a job exists to be done then the company that profits from that work should pay staff at least minimum wage preferably living wage to do it, not use my tax funded benefits to pay their staff in order to make more profit for the shareholders.

I have no issue with people receiving benefits when needed, but I don't like that tax credits exist to allow private companies to pay below living wage, either the job is worth paying for or it isn't.

If we had nationalised industry however as the tax payer subsidises the industry or profits from it, then no problem with over employment there instead of benefits.

These retailers obviously have a role which needs filling within their organisation but instead of employing someone and paying them a proper wage, hence getting them off benefits, they choose to pay a pittance to the government in return for X number of weeks free labour, send them back and then get another X weeks of free labour.

Fill those vacancies and give people a proper job, getting them off benefits and contributing income tax to the state
