"The wind howled. Lightning stabbed at the earth erratically, like an inefficient assassin. Thunder rolled back and forth across the dark, rain-lashed hills.

The night was as black as the inside of a cat. It was the kind of night, you could believe, on which gods moved men as though they were pawns on the chessboard of fate. In the middle of this elemental storm a fire gleamed among the dripping furze bushes like the madness in a weasel's eye. It illuminated three hunched figures. As the cauldron bubbled an eldritch voice shrieked: 'When shall we three meet again?'

There was a pause.

Finally another voice said, in far more ordinary tones: 'Well, I can do next Tuesday.'"

Essex.

Before I married the first wife , we had to attend church marriage lessons at the Catholic Church she wanted to get married in...

Every one had to stand up and say their name and religion.

Obviously most were catholics, a few CoE, then I stood up and said my name and that I was a Pagan...

Let''s just say I didn't get included in the conversations...

Not really a pagan but have more of an affinity with it than regular religion's.

I told the priest to have a religious experience I would go to the woods rather than a man made building...

It's very easy these days to find out (the very basics) on paganism from the web . Unfortunately there are lots of misunderstanding out there to all mixed up together . The trick is separating the two .

I found a plastic wallet with my birth chart and reading done by my little old lady friend™ that she did in about 1999.

I profess not to believe in such things but a close re-reading of 6 pages of explanatory notes and a 12 page reading (all hand-written btw, she's old school and has no truck with people using computers) was uncannily accurate.

I can only surmise she knew me staggeringly well when I was 19 and made some very accurate guesses about my personality.

Interesting.

Intresting read. really not sure what I am do I believe in an all powerful god no dont think I do. I believe in nature and its checks and balances. I believe in the main we hinder it and the worlds a sadder place for it. Not sure I would ever go as far as calling myself pagan as there are (to my knowledge) rituals and things go along with that.

I have a something that Lee tough me. (Condensed version )

"People lie....religion is made by people.

The animals and plants have never lied to me.

When the wind blows it's my god stroking my hair...when I look to the sky and feel the warmth of the sun or feel rain kisses on my face

...I feel part of this world and not just passing through. "

We are all connected.... Some people just have not seen it yet.

A little off topic but....

Miss has always had a fantasy about being a pagan witch doing spells in the woods by candle light and the towns witch finder discovers her, ties her to a tree and begins to torture a confession out of her.

He cuts away her white dress (necessary for confession obviously) to leave her naked, she refuses to confess...

The witch finder believes she is casting a spell on him because he becomes aroused, and she then says the only way the devil can be excorcised out of her is for her virginity to be roughly taken whilst being called a "vile whore", "slut of the devil", etc etc.

Kinky witch

in order to have positives you must have negatives. If its something you and others will gain knowledge and happiness from go for it. Either ignore or educate the negatives though some folk (me included are very sure of what is right and true) there is always the chance folk can be enlightened

Nothing really too bad ablut any of this stuff as long as it's benevolent. It's the black magic brigade who are best avoided. They actually believe in propagating evil and pray for bad things to happen in the world. They literally see themselves as the sons of satan and they literally hate any good in the world. Not nice!

Thank you for adding to the thread.

Magic / witchcraft and pagans like all other things come in many forms but the constant in it all is the heart of the person wielding the power / kraft or belief.

I do have some ideas for new threads that would be useful. ...just need to edit the text from s real computer and not a mobile phone.

Magical kisses

And to those who don't believe or think witchcraft is a load of bunkum - you're wrong. It's power is very real and everything works! A spell well-cast will hit its mark! A good one will do good. A bad one? Stay well away! Makes horror movies look like documentaries!

I recently found out that I'm descended from vikings so have started to look into their beliefs and religion and I'm finding the more I read the more I have in common with them.

I go every year to Stonehenge for the summer solstice and occasionally for the winter one, I like being round hippie's despite hearing the bollocks they talk... There like comedians on stage, you have to take them with a pinch of salt and then you can laugh along with them

I looked into the wiccan lifestyle a few years back and found that I live my life or at least have a similar ethos to those who follow the religion.

I studied a little about wicca (the craft) but left well alone as it's not for amateurs like myself.

Of the wiccans and witches I have met I'd say they're some of the kindest and thoughtful individuals I know.

I'm living such a simplistic way of life I feel like doing something to celebrate it....ooooo what to do, maybe decorate a turnip no no... Err a new dance for those times sat round the fire.

Nah, I fancy something bigger, I mean I've barely got anything to do with my spare time....I know, what about we drag some great big stones from Wales, we'll put them in a great big circle, like to celebrate the big warm thing in the sky, and we can make the centre point face the new sun on the dawn of the new year... Might take awhile mate, no probs we can get generations of are family to continue it....

.

Yeah but what's the point in it, it will only be taken over by hippies in stupid robes a few thousand years from now.... Nah your thinking of religious folk, were just simple peasants building monuments to the big warm thingy...

Read 'The Devil and All His Works' by Dennis Wheatley. It's a superb introduction to the Satanic. I believe he was a friend of the arch-warlock Aleister Crowley who lived in Bexhill. Crowley was not a man to be messed with! What he didn't know about the dark world of black magic wasn't worth knowing. It's really not stuff to joke about though. It's very serious and dangerous shit!

You don't have to pick one though..... Alot of people who do pick one swap around alot...a bit like marriage "

True, though I'll still go for Pagan. None of the others fit

Lee and I got married at the local council but it was a witches wedding. All my family and friends thought it was lovely.

Even the council said they are becoming more and more Pagan/ witch weddings.

Thank you Joe for the warnings, but like in every day life there are good and bad, light and dark, love and hate, fear and hope.

Everything needs it's counter weight to keep in balance.

Satan was an invention of the Christian faith because I am not Christian I do not believe in Satan, Jesus and the whole bible concept of sin, heaven and hell.

In order to be a Satanist you have to have been a Christian (or know a lot about it.)

I'm not saying it's wrong, it is not my path.

I would like to keep this thread upbeat , positive and help others find each other.

Thank you again for your imput and warnings. Adults must make informed decisions about their own beliefs.

Kisses

Technically I think you may be right but that doesn't stop a lot of very disturbed people becoming devout Satanists while knowing jack shit about any other faith, Christian or otherwise! Well avoided! Peace!

Satanists and pagans are totally seperate things. Ive no idea why its even entered this thread. I like the scientific elements here. The witchcraft (casting spells and such) not so much. I wouldnt dismiss them altogether as there are plenty unexplained things on this world. But I do believe alot like the thought of "magic" so believe in it in the same sense a christian believes in god. As for science geo thermal sun moon are all important but none more than the other. Its natures checks and balances that keep life apparent. Not to menruon the things we dont know about

Carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, helium nitrogen, Phosphorus and sulfar... Those are the seven most abundant elements in the universe...if you forget helium as that's really an inert gas.

The other six coincidentally are the six most abundant in you.... Well it's not quite a coincidence as you see there it is, your part of the universe.

No mysticism required just bog ordinary chemistry and physics.

The great astronomer Carl Sagan once said the elements in your left hand probably came from a different star than the elements in your right hand, it's a wondrous and fascinating statement but again it doesn't require mysticism or magic.... No preying or spells required, it was doing it before you were alive, it was doing it before you evolved, it was doing it while we were just amoeba in a gloppy soup

My fault I didnt mean actual elements lol more the interactions of forces and planatary bodies that allow "life" as we know it. While I dont believe in magic and mysticism I wouldnt disregard it completly. Our understanding of how things work is very limited was the jiat of what I was saying.

Your faith in 'bog ordinary chemistry and physics' reminds me of the guy who knocked on my door last week pushing his religion.

Science has made such little progress on explaining something as fundamental as consciousness.

An understanding of consciousness is accepted by many esteemed scientists as being key to having true knowledge of our reality.

It would also clear a few things up for many religions.

If you look at the pagan concept in its truest form ( not the glamourised Americanism connected to the" buffy slayers "or "charmed" of this world) but the true pagan way of life, ie. living of the land ,in harmony with nature , using medicinal plants and asking 'land spirits' for help ,that can be traced back to before humans were living in caves. (Before civilisation) . If you look back in history for 'satan' . He had many names and forms in a pre-Christian era. But he (or she) was a guardian of the underworld , or a mischief maker or I'm some cases a bad spirit. But Lord of hell, where only sinners are sent to burn for eternity he (or she) was not , until he was made that way.

Your right it's hardly touched consciousness.... Of course it's done a thousand times more in explaining the natural world, curing disease, benefiting human evolution, suffering, pain relief, longevity, advancement, medicine and the universe than any religion has or will ever do..... Because religion has no answers whatsoever to any problems we face

It's never solved anything in ten thousand years and won't solve anything for another million.

Maggie Wall Burned as a witch 1657

.

On the north side of the B8062 a little under a mile west of Dunning, a gap in the stone wall and some steps give access to one of Scotland's spookier monuments, the memorial to Maggie Wall, who, it says, was burned here in 1657 as a witch.

.

King James VI launched a witchhunt that was to last for over a century, until 1722. During that time some 1500 people, mostly women, were executed as witches in Scotland. Maggie Wall was presumably one of them

Interesting thread Nessa.

I wouldn't call myself a pagan or a witch etc...

I am simply in tunes with some those spiritual things (sorry don't have a better word) and exploring with others.

I have an african heritage and have learnt and using a lot from that.

Same with shamanism and japanese culture i have grasped a few things from others.

I use all of those learnings daily.

Great fun to learn and develop your inner self.

Hope this makes sense
