Weights or Cardio to get leaner?

It's not about the gym at all it's life style and diet
U r what u eat as they say
If u go gym u need to eat every 2 hours 28 grams of Pro teen on as well as carbs
Get a bullet do shacks ect
Don't eat white bread or any thing that takes to long to digest
Don't eat red meats ect
And 45 mins of hard work in gym every 2 days do sum cardia if u wish to worm up or down do legs at least once a week they have natural testosterone in them help u get biger all over
Drink 3 lts of water a day

Changing my diet has made far more of a difference than exercise has.
Get an app and religiously log everything. Focus on reducing first and then look at the mix of what you eat. Getting the balance right makes a hell of a difference. |

Lost over a stone recently, gym 3 times a week with a good diet. Two weeks no alcohol or any processed food. Stick with rule if it's grown on a tree or out ground it's ok ?? Aim for a third carbs, a third fats and a third protein. 5 smaller meals a day. Google how to find out your calorie needed to live and reduce by 500/day
Remember fat weights less than muscle, so if you're building muscle weight won't change. Better to take photos and measurements of your body to see progress. |

Weights burn more calories and also continues burning them long after the workout has finished but you will also gain muscle so you may not lose as much weight as you would hope due to gaining muscle while burning the fat |

I bought a bike and 90 mins a day dropped 2 and half stone (from 14 to 11n half) and ate whatever I liked within reason. Pizza chips was all good. Bit of resistance at home every morn and before bed, push ups sit ups dips, planking, got nicely toned and my health improved dramatically.

Burn more calories than you eat and you will loose weight some will be fat and some will be muscle wastage, weight training will continue to burn calories long after you finish training as the muscle repairs. the more lean mass you have the higher your metabolic rate. Eat regularly and drink plenty of water , avoid precessed foods and starchy foods. For carbs look at glycemic index and choose carfully as you want to avoid insulin spikes. High protein in your diet will keep you fuller for longer and help build muscle. Don't avoid red meat it's fine just make sure it's lean. Also make sure your diet is balanced. There is no need to avoid supplements a simple low carb protein shake would be good as it will fill you up and stop you snacking Also bcaa drinks will help to prevent muscle wastage on low calorie intake. Just don't buy everything that's advertised in fitness mags. Green tea is also a good addition to a diet. Remember as you lose weight the rate at which you loose it will slow unless you continue to lower you calorie intake as the less you weigh the less calories you need. |

Also plenty of cardio I would recommend trying hiit methods as you won't need to spend hours on cardio and is very efficient at burning calories. If you can get yourself to a spin class, you may not be able to walk after but will defiantly torch the calories. Also weights wise forget isolation moves looking at yourself n the Mirror and concentrate on full body routines with lots of compound moves. |

Best to ignore the scales and maybe take pics to see the changes as if you build muscle your weight will go up. If you want a true guide of progress have your body fat tested with calipers, but avoid the body fat analysis scales they don't work very well. |

its definitely harder as you get older. I swim every day. That, for me is sustainable. its cardio no question, but there is resistance and it works the whole body.
Diet too, has to be sustainable so no extremes there either. I eat biscuits and chips but not loads and not too often. |

Weight gain/loss is all down to your diet.
Let me give you an example: I am currently gaining weight (intentionally) at about 1lb/week. During bulking, I am in the gym 4 times a week, I do Rugby training for 2 hours a week and often play 80 minutes on Saturday. I also have an active job. I tend to cut weight outside of the Rugby season and during a cut, I'll probably be in the gym three times a week and do one hour of circuit training or similar per week, but I engineer my diet so that I lose about 1lb per week.
If you want to lose weight, there is really no need to excercise. Of course, there are numerous health benefits to excercise which make it a very good idea.
Also; your body adapts pretty quickly to cardio and thus the calorie burn from whatever cardio you choose to do decreases over time, the calorie burn from strength training isn't as high, but can be maintained by progressive overload (ie increasing weight/reps every time you train). If progressive overload is absent from your program, your post-workout calorie burn (which is your body repairing micro-tears in muscle and/or building new muscle) will also cease.
My advice regarding diet and excercise is always the same: Do whichever you know that you will stick at. It's no good cycling if you hate cycling.... |

Diet is the cornerstone of any good fitness programme. Cardio coupled with the right diet will facilitate weight loss. A higher muscle level in your mody will burn more resting calories but possibly just a 100 or so per day.
High intensity impact training gives you a bit of a mix of fast paced exercise including weights but with short rest cycles.
If you need to lose some fat then diet and exercise, busses towards cardio will likely win out. |

If by leaner you mean lose weights then neither of the two instead diet, my doctor had a simple one, stop eating carbohydrates and fat, start the day with porridge and eat as much greens as you like at dinner times and reasonable amounts of meat But not Aitken's |

Different people require different amounts of water. There is no need to drink 2L of water unless you want to. To know if you are properly hydrated, look at your urine - as my doctor once said "we are looking for elderflower, not apple juice".. |

In my 15 or so years grinding I have entered and won , strong man and bodybuilding completions.
Not the highest level but still didn't do so bad.
Muscle burn more calories then fat, so the more muscle your body holds the more fuel it needs. Putting on a little bit of muscle can help to keep you lean.
Also a hard thing for people to understand, " you have to eat to get lean" I know goes against the grain.
You metabolism is like a furnace, your body uses energy to digest and absorb calories. In order to keep that burning and I order for tie body to keep burning up energy absorbing te food you have to keep fuelling it with food. Worse thing you can do is starv your self.
Which regards to the question they both have their place, you act silly burn more calories from an intense weight session then you do with steady state cardio.
A few good pointers,
Cardio is fasted first thing of a morning on an early stomach
Weight sessions are intense with minimal rest breaks In between sets, 30 to 45 seconds.
I've gone from 20 stone to 19 stone 8 in the past 4 weeks just from correcting my diet.
Diet plays alarms part of it too, happy to help if any one hasn't got bored of me ranting yet |

Yeah, and you get most of it from the food you eat. Recommendations for "a person" are always too general. Which "person" are we talking about? A 6'5" bloke or a 5' woman? Both will require different amounts of water (and food for that matter) so the easiest way to tell if you are hydrated is by using your body.. |

Circuit training is performing a set variety of exercises in short bursts (usually less than a minute) with rest inbetween. HIIT literally describes circuit training.
Crossfit is a type of circuit training. "
Hiit is not circuit training , you can circuit train in a hiit manner but it's not circuit training. Hiit can be done with a single exercise like running, rowing , bike etc. |

Don't confuse circuit training and hiit training hiit is a regime in many forms and using many different exercises singularly but can be a circuit when multiple exercises are used in a circuit. |
