So it's 2016
It takes seconds to communicate yet why is still I feel the art of conversation is dead...
Professionals lie about timings and don't reply
Jobs say only reply if successful
And this place relies on carrier pigeons for responses and conversations to flow... |

"What you are describing isn't conversation but communication (or rather the lack thereof).
I have lots of conversations every day. The art is not dead if you cultivate it.
"
Applause applause
Perhaps in deed communication is the easy part but conversation is difficult |

No, communication is the difficult part:
"Most people do not listen with the intent to understand. Most people listen with the intent to reply." Stephen Covey.
Communication requires understanding. Conversation can just be an exchange.

The art of conversation isn't dead but it's on life support.
I know one or two excellent conversationalists and they have two things in common a genuine interest in other people and a willingness to talk to everyone equally. They ask questions, listen to the answer and continue the conversation that way, there's a reason it's termed "to engage" someone in conversation it really needs a bit of an effort I think the problem often is that people are reluctant to return the effort making true conversation difficult. |

Conversation on here will always be a bit strange.
Do we talk about sex?
Is it too soon?
Will I come across as unsexy if I mention lollipop ladies?
What do we talk about while maintaining a fine balance between "I want to fuck you" and "Nice weather we're having".

I concur. It takes time and effort and, perhaps, people feel they don't have enough of either for random people.
On here, the emoticon can effectively end a line a conversation.

I was dressed as a lollipop woman for work today. |

"I could hold a deep and meaningful with a brick wall - and probably convince it into having a satisfying if brief encounter
What sort of brick?
"
Engineering brick...they are usually quite nerdy but great to know if you have any DIY questions. |
