I like that one too.
And Ain't no Mountain High Enough. Although it always reminds me of the film Stepmom now.

"Otis Redding-I've been loving you too long.
One of my faves. x"
Good choice.
Try a Little Tenderness could never be covered as well as he did it.

Going off topic slightly but for me The Conmitments soundtrack version of Try A Little Tenderness gives the original a very good run for its money.
As for favourite Motown track altogether then as others have said far too many to mention....but the first that came to mind was Heaven Must Have Sent You by The Elgins

Of the top of my head...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ub72eylahJg
Jr Walker and the All Stars. Just listen to the bass, hi hat and then the sax comes in. BLISS and goosebumps even after all these years.
So many many more I could've named - including Marvin Gaye's entire "What's Going On" album, but as a stand alone song; This one immediately sprang to mind.
Oh and there's always this belter from David Ruffin:

Very difficult to pick only one and all the ones listed above would be contenders for my favourite.
As someone else has said. Although she is a bit of a diva you have to take your hat off to Diana Ross. Some of the early songs with the supreme's (Baby Love, Love Child to name just a couple) was great work in the 60's. Later songs such as I'm Still Waiting and even her Bee Gees collaboration with Chain reaction (Don't think that was on Motown though) was very good.
Four Tops, Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Jimmy and David Ruffin, Stevie Wonder, were superb and I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the Jackson Five yet.
However head and shoulders above the lot just has to be Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. They just didn't do a bad song.
This thread has got me all emotional now with memories of the Mecca in Blackpool. Happy days. |

I collect rare vinyl, have over 5,000 singles, mainly tamla motown and northern soul but anything by Marvin Gaye and the Isley Brothers does it for me ...
Might have to spin a tune now |

"Good grief...I don't think I could pick just one!
Well one from your list ? "
As everyone else is choosing more than one here are some of my favourites (although not all strictly Motown).
Third finger left hand - Martha and the Vandellas
Needle in a haystack - The Velvelettes
Do I love you - Frank Wilson
Heaven must have sent you - The Elgins
This old heart of mine - The Isley Bros
Bernadette - The Four Tops
Long after tonight is all over - Jimmy Radcliffe |

"Anyone heard Diana ross someday we'll be together but it's a live version and she has people from the crowd singing aswell it's amazing "
I was at the talk of the town in London, very early 70s, and she sat on a guys knee, not 10 yards away, singing this. AMAZING!!! |
