Just heard Alanis Morrisette's Ironic, and completely forgot how much that song winds me up.....

No Alanis, nothing you have said is ironic

The only thing ironic about that song is the title

"10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife"?

That's bad luck, not irony

On the other hand, I'm partial to this offering:

Alanis Morissette - "Hand In My Pocket"

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I blame that song for the misuse by millions of people of the word ironic.

The only thing she was good for was going down on you in a theatre.

Lets break it down:

"An old man turned ninety-eight

He won the lottery and died the next day

It's a black fly in your Chardonnay

It's a death row pardon two minutes too

It's like rain on your wedding day

It's a free ride when you've already paid

It's the good advice that you just didn't take

A traffic jam when you're already late

It's like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife

It's meeting the man of my dreams

And then meeting his beautiful wife"

None of these things are actually ironic.

"

Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly

He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids good-bye

He waited his whole damn life to take that flight

And as the plane crashed down he thought

"Well, isn't this nice."

A no-smoking sign on your cigarette break"

These qualify as ironic.

...it's possible the songs title is intentionally ironic, as despite the song being titled ironic, there isn't much reference to irony in it.

And isn't that ironic...dont'cha think?

I can't stand that song. She's the most over-rated singer next to Debbie (give me strength) Gibson.

Halle-bloody-lujah, can't tell you how much it winds me up when people misuse irony, see it a lot in the forum. So, maybe from this day forth it will stop, alas probably not though.

Now wouldn't that be ironic
