Sometimes you come across a cover version of a song which is bloody fantastic!
Now I'm a metal head but I came there through punk and two tone which is why I've just heard a cover of the shadows Apache by the ska-dows which is ace
What cover versions have you heard that made you go wow, that's brill? |

China Drums's Wuthering Heights is still one of my favourite covers. It's not technically a great version. The energy and the rhythm always makes me want to smile. It evokes great memories. |

Still in the learning part yet. I've lost my other vocalist as she need to go and get herself a new fella!! The nerve!! Lol
Fake plastic tree
High and dry
Street spirit
Hunger strike temple of the dog
Call me a dog
Pictures of you the cure
Just like heaven
In between days.
Zombie the cranberries
Linger
Can't think of the rest.!! Lol
But the open mic nights around our way would be where we were going to start. |

Once Upon A Dream by Lana Del Ray.
Killing In The Name by The Apples.
Igor Presnyakov on YouTube does tons of amazing guitar only covers.
Hurt by Johnny Cash.
The soundtrack for Sons Of Anarchy had a lot of cool covers too.
And for any Game Of Thrones fans there is an amazing hip hop cover of the theme by Dominik Omega. |

The last one to do that to me I was sat on a Virgin Atlantic plane at JFK waiting for us to leave when a ska melody playing over the PA system caught my ear. As it was mid-verse all I caught was the lyric "you gotta stand aside, you gotta be denied" which I recognised but bugged me what it was till it hit the chorus....

Metallica whiskey in the jar,die die die my darling and brothers in arms.
Nirvana man who sold the world
Guns N roses live and let die
And lastly mad world by evergreen terrace although I think it would be better without the shouting from the backing singer. |

Bangles "Hazy Shade Of Winter". (orig. Simon and Garfunkel).
Pauline Henry "Feel Like Making Love". (orig. Bad Company).
DJ Sammy feat Yanou & Do "Heaven". (orig. Bryan Adams). Liked the dance version but love Do's vocals on the Candlelight remix.

"I always liked 'people are strange' - echo and the bunnymen on soundtrack to lost boys. Saw them weeks ago and they don't play it live... "
The Bunnymen version is great, but for outright weird, I like Stina Nordenstram's effort:

Think we've had 3 or 4 shouts for Sound of Silence - Disturbed, I actually stopped my car to listen to it the first time I heard it.
Feeling Good - Muse is pretty good too. |

"Interesting thread
I love Marilyn Manson's cover of Tainted Love.
And only recently discovered that the Soft Cell version was a cover too "
Sure is and the original is amazing! First heard it on the film Sightseers and only when I checked it out did I find out it was the original. |

"M Craft - She Sells Sanctuary (much better than the original!)
This can't be true "
Well I never much liked the original really, so I'm biased.
This version is less bombastic and brings out the "Indian-ness" of the central ring. It's slinkier and funkier - which is a good thing |

Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah is amazing.
I'd like to put a good word in for John Cale (ex-Velvet Underground and greatest living Welshman)'s version though.
His predates JBs by a number of years and is beautiful too. He was perhaps the guy who first realised what a beautiful song it was (when arranged properly, unlike the original). |

I saw Kubo with the children today (go, it's beautiful) and the soundtrack is Regina Spektor doing George Harrison's While My Guitar Gently Weeps. It sounds great.

Elvis Costello's version of the Flying Burrito brothers Hot Burrito #1
Dexy's version of Van Morrison's Jackie Wilson said
Not better IMO but a bigger hit, if I remember rightly it was performed on TOTP in front of a backdrop of Jocky Wilson. Funny at the time |
