I thought the books were poorly written and lacked imagination particularly in the sex bits.... the same phrases being used repeatedly.
Fuck knows why I watched the movie but it was also terrible, I've never witnessed less on-screen chemistry in my life.

They could use the hype and perhaps joke about reading the book with their friends, but actually speak about sex under the guise of it being about the book.
Women that enjoy sex are still mostly seen as sluts- no matter how enlightened we like to think the world is. But the Grey books made it 'ok' to talk about sex, if only for a while. And if it gave women the confidence to ask their partners to try a bit of bondage then a massive thumbs up from me.
I'm sure people have enough common sense to not use cable ties etc. But even if they do then they have to take personal responsibility for themselves.

I just think those books are bad English. It made me hate the word mercurial, for example, because it is used so often. If they were better written then I would probably have quite enjoyed them; the characters are a little silly but something about the clichéd nature of them mixed with the ruder than an average novel sex scenes kind of worked. They also helped to make it OK for women to enjoy and even discuss erotica. And that's not a bad thing. |

I actually had to remove my pof profile because of the amount of unsolicited abusive mail i was getting from guys (who are obviously on fab btw so let that double standard sink in) who had seen me on here and felt they had a right to give me a piece of their mind about how disgusting it was that i was on here and also looking to date , poor poor guy that meets me and thinks im a nice girl , about how they would never date someone like me because they would be ashamed to walk down the street and have other guys look at him knowing their gf was a slut , someone they could never take home to their mother (because you know telling your mum about your gfs sexual history would be a normal thkng to do )
All stuff along those lines and 99% of it from people i had never even tried to contact they just recognised my face from chat
So 100% i think people still view women who like sex as sluts |

I tried to read the books (well only the first one) and found it crushingly dull. I tried to watch the movie and fell asleep. Fab Queen assures me they improve, not convinced! |

I'm obviously far to vanilla to be here, I must be the only person on the forum to actually enjoy the film?!
From a vanilla perspective (and I did watch it before I started to experiment last summer) I thought it was good, maybe I need a rewatch now and see what I think
I tried to read the books but couldn't really get into it (tried reading after watching the film, Harry Potter and green mile all over again!)
I know a lot of people that enjoyed both the book and the film (but they aren't in 'this world') lol
